What the club says: The Alvor Course
Located primarily in the northern portions of the property, the Alvor Course assumes a parkland character playing through corridors lined with mature Pine trees. Elevation change is integral to the design of this nine as a majority of the golf holes ascend hillsides or descend through intimate valleys. The parkland setting disappears momentarily and the mature trees area is replaced with a series of holes that are more exposed. A momentary preview of the dunesland holes to come is also provided in the sixth and seventh holes. As the round concludes, the course ascends once again into the parkland character.
The Lagos Course
The Lagos Course begins with the same parkland character. This course incorporates the only two lakes found on the entire site in the short par 3 third hole and the long par 4 sixth hole. Holes seven and eight immerse golfers into the expansive dunes lands on the southwestern portion of the site. The round concludes ascending to the clubhouse and transitioning back yet again into a more parkland setting.
The Praia Course
The third nine at Palmares presents the golf experience every great designer dreams of having the privilege to create: a seaside dunesland exposed to the elements. The four seaside holes are bracketed by the beach and the rail line. The course opens descending from a parkland setting. Abruptly, the second hole whisks golfers into the true coast duneslands. This dunes character is carried forward through the remainder of the golf course with the closing hole, a strong uphill par 5, rising back out of the dunes through a deep valley to an amphitheatre just below the clubhouse.

In February 24 it is in a very poor state
Played today. The Alvor nine is closed. The other two nines are in poor condition.
Please read RECENT TripAdvisor reviews on the course, I wish I had. Not told beforehand of issues relating to the abysmal greens and poor fairways and they still charge full price for playing and for the cart.

Could Be Great
This course could be great (even the best in the Algarve) if they sorted the water problem out. 3 different 9's all very different. Overlooks the sea on numerous holes. If they got the fairways watered and it was not so dry then it would be up there as one of, if not the nicest course in the Algarve, Shame.

Nice course worth playing
Third time playing Palmares, it's clubhouse has been rebuilt since last here and looks stunning. Played the Alvor/Lagos combination which is the best 18 in my opinion. Some nice looking holes playing down to the sea. Greens okay a bit patchy in places as were the fairways, perhaps spent all the money on the clubhouse and hotel and forgot to maintain the course. Still enjoyed the round though.Reviewer Rating

Palmares Golf
Lovely Course with some fantastic looking holes, all overlooking the sea. Lots of building works going on currently, reminds me of Monte Rei. Good challenging course in really good condition.Reviewer Rating

First time worth a visit
Our first time here and it was very pleasant. They have 3 lots of nine holes and we played the one along the coastline. Personally I am not a big fan of links golf so of the two 9 holes preferred the other nine. But for those that like a few dunes and coastline, this will fit the bill.Reviewer Rating

Awesome place
I'd seen the pictures on the internet and Palmares looked spectacular and we weren't disappointed. There are three nines, which can be played as three 18-hole combinations to add plenty of variety if you are there for a few days. The Alvor offers a gentle start and the first three holes nice but nothing spectacular, but it ramps up several notches after that with some superb elevated tee shots down towards the ocean. The Prai nine has a links feel to it - a bit more wild and rugged right down by the sea, while the Lagos nine probably has a bit of both. There was not a weak hole among them. Greens were in great condition, facilities were superb and some of the views are just epic. Amazing place to play golf.Reviewer Rating
