What the club says: Set in the beautiful countryside of the Chiltern Hills on the border of three counties, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire, with panoramic views over all. This 6800 yard, mature tree lined, 18 hole, par 73 parkland course, is bordered on two sides by Whipsnade Wild Animal Park and is some 700 feet above sea level, yet is only gently undulating, making for easy walking.

This peaceful course is varied and interesting and the length and design add to the challenge. The course, complemented by a full size grass based driving range, chipping green and a practice putting green aids the golfer in their pursuit of a perfect round.

We found the course very nice to play and in good condition but as visitors to the club we found ourselves unwelcome, we were not allowed to use the grass bays at the driving range even though the members were using them and a members 4 ball would not allow our 2 ball to play through so we had to stay behind them for 18 holes.overall I don't believe it is a good club for visitors and will not be returning.

Great quiet course

This is a lovely course, great views, and when we played extremely quiet.
Everyone was really welcoming, but we didn't see the promised wallabies.

Great condition

Lovely day at Whipsnade, course was in great condition, greens lovely and true. Only slight downer was using the range, was advised could use it but not to use the grass range had to use the mats undercover, the grass range was for members only. I get it but it was dead quiet no one using the range so was a little bit unwelcoming. Apart for that the course was good, and all 4 players enjoyed the day.

Great Course

Played Whipsnade for the first time on Friday 22nd Sept with my eldest son. We were both very surprised after travelling along some very narrow lanes to find such a lovely course with practice areas and a lovely converted building into a clubhouse / bar / restuarante. Booked online as a 2 ball and had a great deal teeing off at 3.30pm. However when asking if we could T off early (as it didnt appear busy) the reception was a little offhand and we were curtly told that we had to wait and play with 2 other people as a 4 ball and that was why we had such a good Green Fee.!!! I recommend that this should be made clear at the point of online booking. However we waited and the guys didnt turn up the obligatory 5 mins before T time so we followed a single player and had a great round of golf despite the heavens opening up when we got to the 2nd T. Thunder and lightning imediately overhead but there was no siren - so we played on and it was great that we did. The round consisted of sunshine and showers and some brilliant golf by my son James. The holes are all individual tree lined fairways so you were immersed in the hole you are playing. 5 x par 5's, 9 x par 4's - 5 of which are close to 400yds, 4 x par 3's over a course yardage of 6393.
We played the front nine in 1.1/2 hrs and the back nine in 1.3/4 hrs helped in part by James' great scoring. Playing off 8 and only 6 times a year he carded a Gross 3 over 76 dragging his old Dad along for the ride. Overall a great golf course, nicely maintained with very good consistant greens. Fairways are lovely and soft underfoot (grass - not wet soil) so the ball is sat up nicely.
I would totally recommend any one in the area to come and play the course. I play for our Seniors team and travel to many golf courses and this stands well above many that I have played.
My only other recomendation is that the scorecard is available online. Whilst the video is great most golfers love to view the card before we decide to play a course.

A little gem

First time I've played this and really glad I did. It's a lovely course and well worth a visit. The layout is very good and the course conditions were v.good. Greens rolled very well and very consistent (and surprisingly fast). Not the most difficult course, but it's not a really forgiving course either. I came off with 3 doubles, which is the most in 2 seasons - play off 8.

Course playing very long as still quite damp fairways after Saturday rain so challenging. Better when more run as par 4's are challenging.

Good Course

Course generally in very good nick, though some of the tee areas a little scruffy. Course would benefit visitors better if signage provided for next hole tee areas.

Peaceful but bland parkland

The greatest strength of this course is its beautiful setting, with no roads or houses within eyeline or earshot it's very tranquil. The land is remarkably flat for where it is, which makes for an easy walk but leads to the primary shortcomings of the course. Firstly that the layout is quite bland with a formulaic procession of par fours and no holes you'd consider memorable. Secondly that the drainage is terrible and in winter it becomes an unplayable quagmire.

Conditioning is however generally very good, a summer round will find well kept playing areas and true rolling although flat and uninteresting greens. If only similar attention were paid to the areas adjacent to the fairways - for if you stray from them you're liable to lose your ball in the thicket of brambles and nettles which often borders both sides of the hole.

Club pros are not known for their friendliness and people skills, but this one takes taciturn to a new level....
