What the club says: An outstanding beautiful heathland course occupying an oasis of sand, heather and pine in the middle of attractive countryside which is predominantly clay and marsh.
The late Henry Longhurst wrote particularly affectionately about the course and Sir Peter Allen, in his book"Play the Best Courses", rates two holes at West Sussex, the 6th and the 13th as the best inland holes in the British Isles.

West Sussex
An absolutely beautiful course. Challenging holes for good golfers but also enjoyable for high handicappers. Greens had just been hollowed when I was there so didn't run true but to keep a green in great condition the green keepers have to carry out maintenance.Reviewer Rating

Still Pride Of Sussex
I've wanted to play West Sussex for a long time. This is ranked as the best course in Sussex and it didn't disappoint. The course was in fantastic condition and although February, the sun was shining for me. The fairways and greens are perfect but the heathland will challenge anybody. Go in there and you are in trouble. The course starts off with a Par 5 to get you away and from then on is a great mixture of Par 4's and Par 3's. Some of the Par 3's are the trickiest I have played. I loved the 6th hole with the lake and with the height above you can choose to take on the 210 yards over the lake for Par or better or aim to the right and go for a 4 which is what I did. I found the holes a fantastic mixture of difficulty. The pace of play was great and Tim the pro was very welcoming. He even checked with me afterwards to see how I had got on. You'll see swans, horses and lots of heathland which you want to be clearing.swans, Horses

A real gem of a golf course
I’ve been quite privileged to have played some nice golf courses in the UK, but this has topped them all. Every hole is a different challenge and of real beauty, such a shame that it is members only because i would be travelling down to play it at any chance possible. Gary the barman was also a top bloke and most helpful. Food was top notch also.Reviewer Rating

Play this course!
Gorgeous course. No two holes alike. Lots of heather, well placed bunkers plus gullies to take the stray ball away from the greens. A must play, and it will put you off farmers fields that claim to be golf courses for ever. Why can’t all clubs have a driving range, a putting green and a chipping area with twenty yards of the clubhouse?Reviewer Rating
