What the club says: Surrey golf and location at it's best. Few can doubt the beauty of the West Surrey course with its tree-lined fairways and contrasting scenes of the Surrey landscape. The course winds slowly upwards towards its highest point 440 feet above sea level, round the 16th tee. From there, apart from a teasing climb to the 17th, it begins a gentle descent back to the clubhouse and it is not fanciful imagination to say that it has the tranquillity and charm of a bygone age.
Opened in 1910, the course was designed by the the renowned architect of that time, W Herbert Fowler, who created nearly 40 courses in England, Scotland, Wales and America, most famously Walton Heath.

A great layout in superb condition. The greens rolled very true so if you got a good putt toy knew early if it was going in. Great food in the clubhouse and nice outdoor seating looking up the 18th.

Day off for golf

Most Impressed
My second visit, this time for a club competition and the course set up and condition was immaculate.Food in the halfway hut and the clubhouse was first class and members and staff were most welcoming.

First visit and will definitely play again when the weather is a bit better as course was soft and played long. Greens were very good with a some challenging drop-offs and slopes so approaches need to be accurate. Only downside but not the clubs fault is that GPS and satellite maps don't show the new bunkering so unless you have a laser rangefinder it's a bit of guesswork.

Well maintained parkland course
West Surrey is a higher quality parkland course, in very good condition even after a very dry summer. Bunkers are well placed and have sand in so offer a fair test. The greens were fast and true; perhaps faster than many will be used to. It's a shame the halfway hut was closed as this was impressive last time we played there. One frustration is the old fashioned approach to the dress code. We had to buy white socks when we arrived as these are essential if you wear shorts. It would be useful to know this as part of the online booking process. Who is looking at people's ankles?Reviewer Rating
