My Last ever round.......
This course is now closed for good. Was a fantastically cheap and cheerful place to play when conditions everywhere else were waterlogged. Though a short course was tough with the wind blowing over the south downs. There was a genuine threat that both the Public courses would close down at the end of March this year and so lose the most accessible playing fields when it is wet. However Hollingbury survived but Waterhall is no more :-(Reviewer Rating

Cheap as chips but a good challenge.
Be under no illusions - there will be no European tours organised here, but that's not what this club offers. Club house and facilities are stuck in the 80's but the course still presents a good challenge for all standards of golfer. Hardly any lie is flat, cleverly elevated greens, slight links feel to some holes, 2 par 3's that wouldn't look out of place in any of Portugals finest courses. Yeah it's rough around the edges but so what - never a dull moment.Reviewer Rating

Excellent views (probably)
It wasn't really tricky finding Waterhall, my GPS pretty much led me to the front door, but seeing it was another matter. The mist meant that greens were often hidden until the last minute (which gave me a perfect excuse for my score!). This was a shame though, as from what I could tell there are some excellent holes and wonderful views. The course plays out in two loops, first returning you to the clubhouse at the 7th, and then you don't see it again until the 18th (in the weather we had today, we almost never saw it at all!). This isn't a flat course, I barely even remember a flat hole, so if you have any issues with climbs then maybe give it a miss.
The holes I remember most are the 9th, 10th, and (I think) the 14th. All of them involves a climb to the green, and I imagine all are very pleasing on the eye good weather.
There's been a lot of wet weather over the previous couple of months, and the expectation might well have been a course that's been struggling to cope. This is especially so given that it rained throughout our round. However, apart from a number of very damp tees, thanks to the chalk base it was pretty much water off a duck's back. The greens, which were frequently small, scarcely look troubled by the rain.
Most of the fairways were very generous, and I imagine that it's a course that people can score well on. The bunkers didn't look especially great though.
The shame is that this course is due to closed by the council at the end of March due to poor numbers. It's one I'd happily travel to to play. My hope is to play it again over the next couple of months and maybe see it on a sunny day. I imagine it's well worth seeing.

Srains well after a week of rain
Apart from the bunkers which were dry but very sodden the course was playing well. Obviously ball would not run but no standing water or swashy under foot. wWind always plays it part here and the last 2 holes were all into the wind.Green a bit slow but again understandable due to amount of rain. Would I play here again, of course I would.(Round played: Oct 2019 - Score: 83 Handicap: 15.8)

Best practise course in Sussex
This is cheap and cheerful, lots of hills and slopes to contend with. A rough diamond.(Round played: Apr 2019 - Score: 88 Handicap: 16)

Decent course
Played here today after looking for a non boggy winter course. It was an enjoyable completely boggy free round. It’s a tad scruffy in patches but for £18 Saturday morning round it was good value for money.Reviewer Rating

The ugly sister
Waterhall is a short quirky course complete with footgolf and occasional dog walkers. At the top of the hill is the Dyke Golf Club, the big brother of Waterfall just down the hill and could be described at the ugly sister, but this would be cruel. This is a great course to learn on and many in the Sussex area will play some rounds here to practise. You have to be a mountain goat with legs of iron to get around this course. For the price £9.50 for a twilight round you can't beat it.(Round played: Jul 2018 - Score: 85 Handicap: 0)
