What the club says: Wanstead Golf Club was established in 1893 and offers a warm welcome and a challenging 18 holes. The Course is set in beautiful parkland and has hosted many of the major events in the Essex County calendar and is the home of the prestigious Armitage Cup. You will need a handicap certificate and knowledge of golfing etiquette, but we guess you would expect that from a long established club! Ample Car parking or if travelling from the City only 5 minutes walk from Wanstead station on the Central Line

Wet, But that's England
Had a great day in early March. Course is standing up well where alot of other courses are closed Wanstead has majority of holes in play with few temp tees and no temp greens.Reviewer Rating

Tight course, perhaps too tight
The very friendly pro explained the oddness of the layout and didn’t quite believe until I experienced it. The first and last fairways crossing, the shleps between 1st/2nd, 5th/6th, 16/17/18, the overlaying fairways of 3rd/4th. Definitely some interesting holes but wouldn’t like to play when busy. Course very dry with grass struggling on nearly all fairways, greens in reasonable condition. Overpriced.Reviewer Rating

Old Staple in Essex
They have spent a lot to improve the patio areas due to the recent pandemic regulations on social distancing and outside eating etc, the course has also benefitted from the recent rains(Round played: Jun 2021 - Score: 81 Handicap: 11.9)

Nice course on the Edge of Epping Forest
The greens were in very good condition and the fairways recently cut, We agreed as a society to play pick and place as there were some bare patches Holes 2-5 are a short walk away and up and down so rehearse the word FORE! Staff and members were very friendly and helpful. Hole 16 is a real poser!!Reviewer Rating

Really Nice Course
More difficult than I expected but great course. Greens were excellent but tough to read. The fairways were a bit hard and the undulations gave some inconsistent bounces.(Round played: Sep 2019 - Score: 109 Handicap: 24.2)

Not Bad
Played here September '19 .The course got more interesting as it went on .I wasn't that fussed about the front 9 but on the back 9 i thought the holes had more about them & were more interesting .
Fairly unusual layout in that the uninspiring holes 2 to 5 are in a separate area which is reached by walking along a residential road & then at the end of the round you play 2 holes around a pleasant, large lake & then walk along part of a cricket ground to get to 18 .These 2 lake holes 16 & 17 are good holes & the lake takes you buy surprise if you don't know about it as it is high up & not visible from the rest of the course .
Fairways were dry on the visit but then we haven't had a lot of rain this summer & the greens were recovering from maintenance but putted well.
The visitors car park is quite small & when we arrived there wasn't a space & the residential road didn't seem to have a nearby space but after about 10 minutes someone moved. I liked the feel & atmosphere of the clubhouse & it was pleasant sitting on the south facing patio out the back with a drink after the round by the putting & bowling green .
It's probably worth a knock here if you haven't played it before .
