What the club says: The 6012-yard course is a challenging par 70 parkland style course conveniently situated between the A483 road and the River Severn on the outskirts of the Mid Wales market town of Newtown.

Golf has been played in Newtown for well over a century although not at its current location. The club was founded in 1895 and spent the first 13 years of its life at the Bryn on the outskirts of the town before moving to its current location in 1908. Since its inception the course layout has changed three times growing and making better use of the terrain. In 1911 Harry Vardon, who was advising Llandrindod Wells Golf Club, visited St Giles and gave his expert opinion on the proposed extension to the course.

Today the course uses the natural contours of the land to provide a challenging golfing experience rising and falling towards the River Severn, which borders the course and comes into play on three holes.

A Lovely 9 hole challenge

A great little 9 hole course with wonderful settings. The course is in fantastic condition with fast greens and well manicured fairways. This course is always a joy to visit each year.

Played a 4 hole on the course for the first time. Will never return. The layout of the course is a potential death trap. Balls are being hit across and landing on different fairways and there are many blind spots. We were putting on the 3rd green and 4 balls came over the hill and landed by us. On or more of us could have been seriously injured. There is a serious inadequacy of safety signage and alert bells usually operating on well governed courses.
If the Health & Safety board visited the course it would probably be condemned.

A lovely little 9 hole course

A delightful afternoon on a nice little 9 hole course. The fairways were in good condition despite the dry weather. The greens were a bit slow to put on but ran true. I hope to back again in the near future. The local members were friendly and sociable.

A very nicely kept course that looks reasonably straightforward to start with. Then at the end of the 3rd hole it gets very interesting indeed !!! Some slightly quirky tee off locations but a very nice and enjoyable course to play. Highly

Excellent condition all year.

First of all disclaimer out of the way, I am a member of this club, but i'm doing this impartially and from feedback of guests that I have brought here.
The course is kept to an extremely good conditional all year round with the greens clean and true. I say that in relation to us having played a number of expensive courses around the UK and where extremely disappointed with fairways and greens, but we never have this problem here.
It's not a long course, so it's more about accuracy and iron shots and it can be forgiving with your drives onto other fairways, unless you are by the river!!.
They do change the tee's for the back nine, so it does change the hole and you might need to shape the shot, so they have thought about that.
My friends always enjoy this course and are happy to come back, so it must be doing something right.

Narrow challenging course with some interesting holes. 2 different tees for each hole makes 18 holes more interesting. Course in good condition, greens firm and fast, bunkers plenty of sand and fairways well cut. Well worth a visit.
