lack of flexibility
A well kept course entering the winter months in a very attractive and scenic setting. Just the acceptable number of obstacles (trees, ditches and bunkers) to make the game fun and challenging. W are a group of 12 but only 5 of us came to play yesterday because we were told by the Pro1) the café was closed - only proshop food available (sausage rolls, sandwiches, confectionery); our experience of this had not been brilliant.
2) we could not break the game half way through for lunch because we would unlikely be able to get back on. So we would have to play all 18 holes at once
3) we must not use their tables to eat our own food!
In fact, the food served in the cafe was ok, there would have been no trouble getting back on the course after lunch, crikey no one else was using the tables!
Only one temporary green otherwise fab! It's a pity as I would have liked more of our group to take advantage of the winter rate.

Not the best course in the area in summer, that goes to Ross down the road but from October-April this is hands down the best in the area due to the undulating sandy turf that drains well, a few people have said this course is too long but it only is when it's soft, it's 6700 yards off the whites but you get plenty of run so it's really not an issue. I've always found it an interesting test, it's wide open on most holes but depending on flag placement you still need to be precise, yesterday on hole 4 the flag was on the right side of the green so you want to be on the left side, on the left is 2 fairway bunkers and heavy rough, this is typical of the test you face. The only way to play it is to plod around and have a go if you stuff one close

Road trip to Herefordshire
South Herefordshire has been on my radar for a couple of years. However othercourses have just been closer living near Bristol.I'm such an idiot for waiting so long.
The rolling fairways with its undulating greens with some very deep bunkers is a test of any golfers ability.
The course isn't particularly long but you won't be hitting every green either.
It has a good variety of golf holes, long, short, doglegs (left & right), up hill and down hill.
Despite it being an hour away it is definitely one I will be playing again.
Also ball washers (I'm trilled we're allowed to use them again).
Like every golf club it doesn't have any good cider in the bar but you will love the golf....
Twlight rate after 4pm is £12 which is a bargain in August we teed off at 4:48 and was in at 8:15. There was only enough light for 2 holes at a push extra by this point on the 19th of August.

Super course
I play here about twice a month with my son-in-law. The tees, fairways and greens are always in great condition, sometimes the greens are very fast. The course has the usual range of hazards - dog-legs, trees, bunkers and variable slopes - but no water hazards except on the last unless you slice horrendously. The driving range has tracker technology in each bay, very useful.Reviewer Rating
