What the club says: Golf has been played on Rushmere Heath since the late 1800s when it was the home of the Ipswich Golf Club. In 1927 when the majority of the members elected to move to nearby privately owned land, a public appeal and donations from founder members enabled Rushmere Golf Club to be formed.

The heath is a fine natural golf course situated just on the outskirts of Ipswich. Most holes are bounded by gorse and there are many fine old oak trees providing not only natural habitat for birds and other wildlife but demanding care and accuracy from many of the tees.

On day of visit Rushmere was on temporary tees, less than ideal; fairways were in good order for a public course, green overall were 3/5, mainly due to top dressing. I am sure course would rate higher when maintenance complete. Front 9 is a parkland style course of average layout, the back 9 more hilly and has lots of gorse and some amazing holes, much more scenic and more interesting part pf course. Staff all super friendly, nice clubhouse and facilities. i will return to play again after maintenance completed and review again. Overall I would say it is well work a visit.

interesting layout

Played on Rushmere Heath, was in much better condition than was expecting given all the recent rain, you need to look out for dog walkers and other pedestrians, but a great variety of heathland holes, plenty of gorse and mature trees an enjoyable course to play

Great and challenging course. The first 9 are clean and tidy and really well maintained throughout the back 9 are on the heath land. The greens are well maintained but the heath foliage does pose an issue. Prepare to loose balls.

Heathland Course

A course on common land. Certainly presents a challenge but some bare lies due to the coarse nature of the land. Quite undulating and some interesting holes.

Great Golf Day

We played a Charity Golf day and was expecting the course to be worse for wear and dog delights all over. How wrong I was! Loved the course, greens were great (few people ahead of us could do with a new shiny divot repair tool) and the clubhouse/staff were brilliant!

Good. Course too many dogs

The. Course was in good condition, greens ran true but not particularly quick. Appreciate this is common land, but personally could not be doing with all dogs and walkers. Would play again but would not join.
