What the club says: Built in 1888 and redesigned by Harry Shapland Colt in 1947, this incredible course climbs its way up, down and around some enormous sand dunes. With serene views down the Antrim coast it is regularly ranked in the worlds top 20 courses and it had the honour of hosting the first Open Championship to be held in Ireland in 1951.

Worth every penny
If you are thinking about paying the green fees. Do it. The weather included 25kph winds and heavy heavy showers yet all three of our group loved it. We were made to feel really welcome by the staff. The practice faciliies were open to all of us at no extra charge and made us feel like pros. The course was incredible. The views, oh my god the views. The course is so hard. Take plenty of balls especially if you are like me a little wayward off the tee. We loved every moment of the challenge. We were wet and none of us played anywhere near our handicap but it was an aweome experience and we were made to feel welcome in the Restaurant after where we ate great food whilst looking back on a fabulous afternoon.(Round played: Oct 2021 - Score: 104 Handicap: 16.2)

Superb track!!
First time playing any of the Royal Portrush courses and they are superb. Played the Valley course and tricky enough. Beautiful fairways and excellent greens. Even the bunkers had proper sand in them to play out of!!. I will definately come back and play here again. A must when in Northern Ireland.Reviewer Rating

perfect links course
as a warm up to its big brother this is a great course, no need to smash drivers, play smart, hit irons, let them run and score low. Real friendly people(Round played: Jun 2018 - Score: 74 Handicap: 4.4)

Definitely one to miss!
In my opinion they have ruined this course. It used to be a difficult course, but a fair course and rewarded good shots. With the British Open coming to the big course in 2019, they took two holes from the Valley Course and introduced three new holes, none of which add to the course. I, being a pensioner of 72 years struggled to get up to the elevated tees, which at least 12 holes now possess and you can't hire a buggy, maybe I won't be back!(Round played: Mar 2018 - Score: 96 Handicap: 17.8)

Worth playing
Royal Portrush Dunce links are the famous ones. This course is right by the side of it so in many ways presents similar challenges. Maintained to the same high standards but accessible to the high handicapper. You can use the practice facilities at the main clubhouse with complimentary range balls.(Round played: Jun 2017 - Score: 103 Handicap: 24.8)

They have altered this Valley course slightly, as they have lost two holes to the Dunluce Links for the 2019 (British ) Open and the present 16th is a par 5 and a better hole, in my opinion, than the old 17th which it replaces. On the downside they have lost the old 18th, par 3, but maybe after 2019, they will restore it!
