What the club says: Built in 1869 on the edge of the Dee shores and against the backdrop of the distant Welsh hills, Royal Liverpool is a fine place to sense the history and traditions of the game and walk in the fairways of famous men. Home of the 2006 Open Championship, the course may at first appear to look flat and benign, but don't let this be deceiving as in recent years golf architect Donald Steel has been commissioned, with great success, to restore and elevate the course to modern championship standards.

Stunning place.
So much history, everything you’d expect from an open venue.Tee boxes are better then most greens around the UK.

Fantastic Open course
If you want to play a British Open course this must be one of the best. Although we had rain and wind, the course played fairly and the condition it was in was amazing. A very warm welcome from everyone at the club too. If you get the chance play it.(Round played: Oct 2020 - Score: 97 Handicap: 12.9)

Fantastic warm reception
Played in August 2020 with few international travelling visitors. What a welcome provided by Andrew the starter. Looked after our group incredibly well. The course was so quiet we had no-one in front or behind. Amazing experience. The course is tough even with limited wind. Deep rough and hundreds of bunkers await. An absolute must play course and experience.Reviewer Rating

Beautiful "Open" Course
Played on one of the spectacular "summer" days at the end of February, so got lucky for the time of year. Just pulling into the car park felt special enough, to see one of the iconic homes of the famous Open Championship and knowing we were going to be walking the same fairways that the greats had done is actually a very intimidating but incredibly exciting experience. The course is beautiful. It's definitely not the hardest test without the strong winds that the region is famous for, but it's still testing enough! Standing on the first tee outside the famous clubhouse with a few other guests waiting for their turn is also quite a nerve-wracking moment! Thankfully the hole doesn't suit a driver off the tee so you can more confidently hit a safer club without looking like a chicken! There are some wonderful parts to the course, especially as you go out around 8,9,10,11, and 12. You have the sea on your left side for views and I imagine when the wind blows, these holes play completely differently! This is not the cheapest course you will play and in terms of value for money, on the golf side, there are definitely better courses to play for less money, but you can't really put a price on the history of the place and the sheer joy of playing a course you have seen played by the pro's up close on a tv screen. I'm glad I have done it. Not sure I would go back and do it again. One to say I've done, but for the money would look to play another of the old famous courses.

A privilege to play there.
Played 21/3 on what turned out to be a gloriously sunny day. Course was in fantastic condition, some stunning views and brutal rough. The history of the venue, memorabilia on display and warm welcome experienced all made it a day to remember. The members we spoke to and the starter on the first were all welcoming and made the day even better. Expensive, but worth it.Reviewer Rating

Wow. Just played the 2022 Open venue!
Arrived with great excitement to the car park - picturing where Rory drove himself up when he won in 2014. The day was full of Open memories o the course and of course in the amazing clubhouse - absolutely crammed with Open history. We all loved deciphering the players' signatures on the winning photos when Rory and Tiger won - great fun.The practice area is excellent - a good 5 minute walk to the iconic practice area which impacts holes 1 and 16 with OOB. And what a back drop it provides to aim your practice shots at the clubhouse.
The course was amazing helped by the hottest day in February ever and only a 1 club breeze.
I agree with some reviewers that it is a pretty flat course, And at times the course feels like it is simpy carved out of a field. But the condition is beautiful. Amazing greens fairways and tees.
Favourite stretch for all the party was 10-12 along the coast line with the lighthouse in the background and the coast line to your left. The signature par 3 11th was just breath taking and followed by memories of Tiger holing out on his approach from the 12th fairway in 2006 is just an amazing feeling to walk in his footsteps.
Although the end is probably the weakest part of the course - who cares. The whole expereince is just magical.
We booked with county cards and played an Open venue for £55. Come on!
Only slight gripe - with the Walker cup looming in September they have rebuilt many of the revetted bunkers so most were understandably GUR (which helped!) and they are protecting landing areas on the fairways so offered little mats to play off to protect the fairways (maybe a feature of the area as we played Wallasey on day 2 and they did the same).
Just go play it!

Paying for the novelty
Greens and bunkers were outstanding, overall considering it’s anOpen venue it was disappointing tee box’s were neglected. The layout is very flat and not much character to the course , Hillside is a much better course
The clubhouse is stunning and everything you expect with an open venue.
Surprisingly the bar prices are very reasonable.
