What the club says: Boasting one of the World’s oldest Grade I listed clubhouses, the original building dates back to 1483, and was once the family home of Anne Boleyn (Queen of England 1533 to 1536).

In 1924 the 100-acre course was re-designed by James Braid, the famous designer of Carnoustie, Royal Troon, & Gleneagles, and still today the course retains many of the typical James Braid features.

Nice course - well presented & very good fast (ish greens that will test all levels. The back 9 are generally more interesting & strategic holes ( f/ways not over wide & punishing rough). Overall this James Braid designed course was great value at ?29 (county card rate) & will definitely play again.

Classic Braid

Really enjoyed our day trip & this Braid course did not let us down. Tight fairways, dog legs, ample bunkers, ditches, streams & ponds + an out of bounds next to Southend airport runway. Greens were hard to read but ran true & fairways were very fine indeed. Kitchen long shut by the time we finished but 2 interesting beers will make me want to go by train next time.

Rochford Hundred

Played Rochford early April, the course had been well maintained through the winter. Fairways and tee boxes very decent, greens had recently been cored so a little bumpy but still fairly quick. Course generally flat but a good variation of holes

Lets start with the positive! great course, very well maintained, great food good value and the staff were very helpful in the bar area. This unfortunately is where the experience ended for me. Upon retiring early I wanted to learn how to play golf last year and noted an advert for new to golf which included lessons, bronze membership, and use of the 4 holes when a standard had been reached. After completing my lessons in the studio we went for an assessment on a live course, coming from a studio environment to a live course was very different and I failed the assessment. Rather than continuing the coaching I was told to quote "go away and practice then come back" With smashed confidence I joined a golf circle who meet at Belfair's. These guys helped me greatly and gave me the boost I needed to continue. I then returned to Rochford and was allowed to play the 4 holes as per my membership. I really enjoyed the summer afternoons playing on my own and with members often asking me to join them even though I explained I was a beginner, This is how you learn right? Time arrived for my full membership. Completed my interview and told there would be a further assessment and once again I was told I failed not reaching the standards required despite the website stating members welcome of all types (except me) If you can remember Pretty Women where Julia Roberts goes into a upmarket boutique to buy cloth's and told your sort are not welcome here! thats how I felt. I am apparently to slow with my shots which would annoy other members (never been the case all summer) The club committee staff and coaches are arrogant and patronizing. I have joined another club who embraces people starting their golf journey and encourages a team approach. My only advice is, Rochford, be nice to people new to the sport on their way up because you never know when you need them on the way down!

Afternoon Round at Private Local Course

8 of us descended onto the Rochford Hundred club for a Winter deal afternoon round.
Conditions were very blowy but warm and very dry.
The greens were really quick and excellent and the fairways were ok ( a bit pitted but playable).
Overall very enjoyable, not sure the Members were that happy about us being there as they questioned our presence there but as we totally outplayed them we ignored their scepticism.

Lovely

Great setting, historic clubhouse, pretty course. Good challenge and in very good condition. Especially the greens and tee boxes which are impressive for the time of year.
Excellent food post match too.

Super setting

The course is in great condition particularly the greens. It's a really nice setting with a historic building as the clubhouse and a working church situated within the course. There are some challenging and tricky holes. I love the 18th hole. The staff and members are so friendly.

Course is mainly flat but a good variety of holes and hazards to make it interesting. Greens were decent especially after the dry summer.

Great course

Well worth a visit - not a long course but in excellent condition. Greens not easy and very fast. Lot of par 4's and quite tight fairways. Very well maintained

A beautiful course

Without doubt one of the prettiest courses I've ever played. Very well maintained, the greens are quick and true. The fairways are narrow and the rough can be punishing. But I can't wait to go back and play it again.
The clubhouse is Grade One listed (Once the home of Anne Boleyn) and has a charm all of it's own. Even the presence of Southend Airport (the 16th green / 17th tee are right at the end of the runway, so you can stand a watch planes preparing for take-off) can't detract from a great days golf. The service we received was brilliant and the food was plentiful and tasty,
