What the club says: The course has an ideal situation some 300 ft above sea level on an inland plateau, surrounded by the beautiful countryside of South Wales. As it lies amidst picturesque woodlands and hills it is well sheltered from the prevailing weather. The southern views from the clubhouse look across the Bristol Channel towards the hills of Devon and Somerset, while to the east and north lie the hills and vales of North Gwent and the Brecon Beacons.

The parkland turf of the course provides a lush surface for the fairways which are well kept. The soil drains quickly and the course seldom floods even after heavy downpours, the soil is generally free from a hard clay surface and provides a good playing surface throughout the year. The Greens and tees are watered by the club's own sprinkler system, supplied from the clubs own borehole. The course benefits from an integral drainage system which has been installed in recent years.

Super course

Played as a members guest and thoroughly enjoyed the superb course, wonderful hospitality and very friendly pro and bar staff. Course was in great condition, a great challenge. Only complaint was that the bunkers weren’t very sandy at the ‘face’ and rubber base showing through on some.

Very Good Indeed

For the middle of Feb after the tough winter the condition of the course was amazing! Plenty of improvement work going on (new tees and changes to bunkering) so will have to come back in the summer to see the completed work.

Great food after at very reasonable costs...

Wow, The Augusta of Wales??. You could tell that it was a 114 year old course. Not a Twig or blade of grass out of place, the aprons were like fast greens and the greens were lightening fast!!. Some mad pins. Greens had been watered, but you still could not 'hold' them, you could jump up and down on somebodies 'line' and not make an impression. Fairways short and solid, 210yd, 7 irons, 150 yd wedges, for Seniors !!!. Really needed a practise rd to get the hang of conditions.

The course was, as usual in very good condition, though quite a bit of work is taking place on some of the greens to counter compaction to improve drainage. The weather was pretty poor but did not detract from a great round of golf.
