Cheap and cheerful
Cheap course ok for a practice round. Greens are very poor with lots of bulging weeds which make putting more difficult than it should be. Cannot moan too much as it's a very cheap round. Practice green is not worth the space it consumes. Shame the range is closed so nowhere to practice irons etc.Reviewer Rating

Some interesting holes, clearing an actual fairway on the 9th has really improved things. The greens let it down and unfortunately are stopping it being considered a serious golf course . Please put some sand in the bunkers and work on the quality of turf around the greens to make chipping possible. Bare lies are no fun!

Value for Money
At only ?8 you can't go wrong really. The tee boxes are in decent condition, as are the fairways but some of the greens are a little rough. Fairly easy course for a slope rating of 143. Overall had a good afternoon.Reviewer Rating

Not bad for the money
This will be a mixed bag of pros and cons. It's definitely decent value, I've played courses that cost three times this much for a round, and enjoyed them less, so this course is not bad for £8. I've played the main 18 at Millfield quite a few times. It's not the best, but pound for pound it's hard to beat. Some challenging holes, but if you can hit the ball straight you should get a decent score as it's not got many dog-legs. My only gripe is last time I went one of the pin placements, I think around hole seven, was ridiculous. It was at the top of a down-slope on a green, and is essentially impossible to play unless you can sink it straight away; no chance of a two putt or bin-lidding it. If you miss slightly to the side, or under-hit it, it was just rolling straight back down. Extremely frustrating as it used to be on the flat bit of the green, and with that placement I must've dropped about six or so shots. I'm all for a challenge but that wasn't a smart pin placement. All in all, not a bad course, just watch out for hole seven! Oh also if you go on a Thursday, beware, it's seniors day and when I went on a Thurs last year they got a bit uppity with me for trying to tee-off when it was "their day". A bit of advice, playing the main 18 watch your tee shot on hole two, there's a hedge about 245-250 yards from where you tee off and the green is about 25 yards the other side. You want your tee shot to go about 180 yards, so you have a comfortable wedge in. If you end up near that hedge it's not an easy hole to par.Reviewer Rating

5* value
Is this a 5* golf course, no. But is it 5* value, absolutely. It's £8 or £5 for twilight. For that you get a round of golf on a full size course, in a nice setting. The course is spacious and by no means cramped in as some cheaper courses are - big open fairways and you're rarely having to worry about golfers on other holes. A lot of holes with opportunity to get out the big stick, and some that will tempt you to, even thought it might not be the safest option. The greens and bunkers aren't great, but the fairways are reasonable. A few fairway bunkers, which I approve of! A couple of interesting holes with shots over trees. Holes are all a bit straight, which I'm finding strangely common around Lincolnshire.
But for £8 it is well worth it. It's honest about itself and isn't trying to be something it isn't. We need more courses like this, great for people getting into golf, people on a budget, or people just wanting to head out for a no fuss round.
If the owners are reading this, a couple of tiny things that could really help: (1) Yardage markers, just some basic painted wood stakes at 150 and 100 yards (2) hole maps, nothing fancy, just something basic whipped up in an hour or so on MS paint is enough.

Millfield golf course
Great course it's the old story you get what you pay for . If you can afford to pay fifty pounds plus a lot more your not going to enjoy it . But it's fantastic value for your money. And there a few tricky holes. I would definitely recommend it .if you enjoy your golf for not too much money . What a bargain.Reviewer Rating
