Played this course at the weekend. Sad to see the place completely abandoned and neglected. The previous awful reviews are accurate, with bunkers having been reclaimed by gorse bushes and weeds, which look like they've been left to grow untouched for at least a year. The club house was locked up with no one around and just an honesty box for payment of green fees. I played with three others and we each paid what we thought was fair - nothing. I had played this course a couple of time previously in the past 5 years. Whilst it was never a classic course, it was passable, in a nice location and with a few interesting holes. I don't know what the owners/management have done in the mean time to cause such a dramatic decline, but in another few months I imagine it will be completely unplayable. In the meantime don't waste your time or your golf balls - I'd give it zero stars if I could.

Had bought a Groupon deal for 4 people at Malton but in view of recent poor reviews decided to cancel it. Groupon initially refused to do so but after third request agreed to credit my account with the cost. Any remaining Groupon voucher users shouldn't give up obtaining refund.

What a shocking decline of a lovely golf course,it appears there has been no attention paid to the course for a very long time, all overgrown, shocking bunkers/mud holes ,greens that need tlc. If you can't hit it straight don't play it you'll lose no end of balls, destined for closure very soon just 4 golfers this morning playing.

Agree with all the 1 star reviews! Should have checked them first!\4 hours for a 2 ball and that\'s skipping the last 2 holes, mostly looking in the 2 foot rough for lost balls. Even balls landing on the fairway were tough to find as it doesn\'t appear to have been cut for a while, and the daisy\'s don\'t help finding your ball either!\Mushrooms on the greens allowed for some practice shots.\Most of the tee-off areas were overgrown too\

This course is in a very sorry state. Played here regularly a few years ago and went back on a Groupon for old times sake. 5 hours for a 4 ball and, apart from the company and great weather, didn\'t enjoy a minute of it. Club house wasnt open all day, so no food or drink. Shocking.

Absolutely dreadful. I have never seen a golf course as bad as this. The bunkers have been reclaimed by nature. We lost numerous falls on the fairways and anything off there was in 2ft of rough. The greens were just about ok. Such a shame as the course was previously decent. Club house locked, not services, toilets, bar, nothing. We paid 25 pounds for 4 people with groupon and I feel it was poor value. That's his bad it was.

Changes at New Malton
Now Pay&play only -£5 a round, members moving on to other clubs.
Buggies on hire to blue badge holders only
£2 driving range - collect your own balls from driving range. Don't forget your hard hat.
Kevin - Very astute - owner has shot himself in the foot, It is in the worst condition I have seen it. Your review is entirely accurate.
Pity because it is in a beautiful situation and has been in much better condition.
It is now worse than you describe. The owner must have alternative plans for this land which does not include golf.

Have played here each Summer for the past six years. There is no doubting the lovely scenery etc but the course really is in very poor condition. The fairways are covered in daisies and need cutting. The bunkers have more weed than sand and the greens pitted, uneven and need rolling and cutting. It would have been nice to see more signs pointing out the directions of the next tee or even a cut pathway leading you there. When you get to them, I can guarantee disappointment! I don\'t wish to condemn the course, but it really needs a considerable dose of TLC!

Poor reviews are accurate! I have been a member at New Malton Golf Club both before and under the current owners. The course is now in a terrible state, the whole course is very badly weed infested with the grass/weeds around the \"grass depressions\" in places over a FOOT DEEP!. A four ball around this course takes around FIVE hours and with many balls lost. I write this review with regret. I have enjoyed the golf course for quite a few years but the truth is truth, the Golf Pro, committee and members have all done their best to support the club and move forward cannot be faulted but when your only given a garden fork its hard to shovel marbles! The running down of the course is solely down to the ownership of it! the organic experiment has failed! Carl ( part owner and shareholder of the course) posting false reviews on this site will do no good just like the dandelion seeds word has spread, this course is now like a hot dog without the sausage! just a dry old bun, not to be looked forward too and very disappointing to eat! This course is no good for beginner or an accomplished golfer too many lost balls and unpredictable results when a good shot yields no result. And don\'t plan to drown your sorrows after your five hour ball hunt because the beer supply is just as unpredictable, apparently not anybody\'s fault! no beer, weeds in bunkers (sorry grass depressions ) bird assaulted greens and many parts of the course only suitable for Bear Grills training are not the fault of weather but the bad stewardship from the top! \\If you choose to play this course take a good supply of balls, plenty of water and food, don\'t tell your spouse you\'ll be four and a half hours, and take a machete with you so you can join in with the campers who were camped in the woods and wandering about the course when I was trying to play this frustrating game called golf!!\But then some people might say this review is not true! well not in Carls never never land anyway.\

The course has definitely gone down hill. Having played here for many years were disappointed to see how badly the course had been maintained. The fairways hadn't been mown, bunkers had established grass growing in them, the greens were in a terrible state and the worse thing of all, they had turned the 9th hole into a putting green. It used to be an excellent hole demanding a good approach shot. Very poor and very disappointing.

I played here on Sunday 19 January, encouraged by the sudden flood of reviews claiming the greens were back to how they should be and the course was actually very good.
My experience makes me question the authenticity of those reviews. The greens were in very poor condition making putting a bit of a lottery. On many of the greens the ball would skip and bounce randomly. One short chip on actually bounced at a 45 degree angle, such was the unevenness of the surface. The bunkers were hard packed and unraked. Some even had a thriving colony of weeds.
On the plus side the round cost £17.50 which is cheap for weekend golf and I had the course almost to myself. You get what you pay for seems to apply here. I will pay more and expect a better golfing experience elsewhere in future.

I played this course the other day after gale force winds and torrential rain. I couldn't believe how well the course had stood up to the terrible weather. I'd heard the green had been badly affected by crows pecking the hell out of them, but it seemed to me that the greens were recovering well.
One thing that really impressed about this club was the very friendly reception of the staff and the value for money of green fees. The Membership rates looked competitive and I'm considering joining this club in the new year. I loved the course layout as the fairways are wide enough for high handicappers like myself, but challenging enough for the better players!

I played this course on 10.10.2013 and was pleasantly surprised by how well the greens have bounced back from the problems over the summer. One of the main reasons I play this course is because you always play off proper tees and onto propoer greens all year round and despite a lot of rain recently the course was playing well. The cracking course lay out is in my view the best in the area.
