What the club says: The 18-hole course at Purdis Heath was designed by James Braid - a name synonymous with high-quality golf architecture.
Making the best possible use of the natural contours of the heathland surroundings, Braid designed the Purdis course so that its shape resembles a horseshoe which loops around two duck decoy lakes at the centre of estate. The outward holes set off in an anticlockwise flow with the inward holes returning in the opposite direction. The result is that the golfer has to contend with the challenge of coping with winds from varying directions as each hole is played.
The course, built by Messrs Hawtree and Taylor (the five times Open winner who took part in the opening exhibition match), today remains substantially as it was when it was officially opened in 1928 and it compares favourably with the finest inland courses in England.

Club has a 9hole course which runs alongside 18 hole, which is again a lovely alternative to anyone who wants to pay and play!!
Had a beer when we finished playing watching golfers putting on the 18th green!!
A fantastic golf club, which seems very well run, with high standards for everyone visiting the club to enjoy.
Highly recommended.

Superbly kept heathland course with some mouth-watering undulations.
The greens are always in fantastic condition and a joy to putt on.
The layout is great as well. Nothing ever feels the same and even though there are some shorter holes (1st and 9th for example) it still doesn't make them easy.
Its not the most forgiving off the tee as you would expect with most heathland courses, but every hole feel like its picture perfect, if you get the chance to play here don't think twice.

Great test of golf
One of the top courses to play in Suffolk. Played Ipswich a few times (play off 9), being on sand it plays well all year round, if anything the summer months the fairways can be too dry. The tees and greens are kept in immaculate condition, greens are consistent and no a bad hole on the course just great variation. Staff are welcoming and helpful, members are friendly and it great to see an increasing number of ladies and juniors. Cannot praise the course more highly - definitely gets a Michelin ?? or two.Reviewer Rating

Best in Suffolk
Personally feel Purdis is the best course in Suffolk. The layout is fantastic, the removal of tree has been a good decision to open it up and some of the views over other holes are great.
The condition is spot on and the new bunkers have really bedding in. It might not be the easiest course around but overlook the score and take the course for what it is, a stunning layout in pristine condition.

Shame about the greens
I play this course once a year and really look forward to this wonderful golf course. However this time the greens and the fairways let it down. There is a lot of work going on with club house facilities and you can see it is going to enhance this golf club tremendously. I will look forward to coming back next yearReviewer Rating
