What the club says: Hickleton Golf Club is located in open countryside in the heart of South Yorkshire between the towns of Doncaster and Barnsley.
The original 9-hole course was founded in 1909 with the current 18-hole layout opening in 1976, which was designed by the Ryder Cup players Neil Coles, Brian Huggett and Mr. Dyer. Since 1976 the course has developed into one of the finest and challenging courses in the South Yorkshire region. The course is an undulating parkland course with tree-lined fairways and fantastic panoramic views over South Yorkshire and the eastern Pennines. In the words of many visitors to Hickleton, "A superb course with magnificent scenery."

Good considering rain we've had
Course in good condition considering all the rain we've had. The course is a fair but stern test. Par 3's aren't overly long but require well struck irons. Par 4's are well bunkered. The two Par 5's offer different opportunities. The first one being a birdie opportunity for the long hitters. Greens and bunkers all well presented.Reviewer Rating

Challenging course
This is a very well kept and presented course. It is quite hilly and a bit of a slog up some biggish hills (especially on the very hot day we had). It is a challenge as you need to hit the ball straight due to the many dog legs. The greens were quite fast after a fairly wet spell the previous night.Reviewer Rating

Excellent course. Highly recommend
Played today (party of 8). Been a few years since we last played here. Not disappointed. Still a very high standard of course maintenance.very challenging course with undulating fairways. Everything in top condition (possibly a touch more sand in some of the bunkers). Made very welcome in the pro shop and bar area afterwards. Would highly recommend and hopefully will be playing it again this year.(if same deal still available). Well done to all concerned at Hickleton.and thank you for the enjoyable round of golf.Reviewer Rating

Great course worth playing
First time playing Hickleton. Overall very impressed, friendly welcome in the pro shop. Great practice facilities. Course looks great, a few mud balls as still recovering from recent wet weather. Greens mint for this time of year. Quite hilly course but walked round no problem. A few tricky holes, longish par 3s. One or two blind shots from a couple holes tee adds to the excitement. Would certainly play again.Reviewer Rating

Way over-priced mud bath
Somehow the club feels it's justifiable to charge £35 per round even though after very minimal rain the course is like a mud bath. Played a round in April 22 and lost count of the number of plugged balls and muddy areas. Only when the course is in its best condition is it worth anything like what they are now charging. Feels like the club is losing its way through delusions of grandeur, arrogance or simply brass neck. The layout is great and most people are friendly enough but at the end of the day the course is pretty standard parkland affair. There's courses just as good and better drained in the area for much less cost. It's a shame because our group used to play here a lot. We won't be paying £35 ever again - new pro shop or not.Reviewer Rating
