What the club says: Ranked by Golf World in England's Top 100, and sitting high atop the North Downs with breathtaking views of the London Skyline, Effingham Golf Club is a traditional members’ club with a distinctly modern outlook.
Spring 2018 marked the grand opening of our newly designed course by leading golf architects Mackenzie & Ebert who have enhanced our classic Harry Colt masterpiece with spectacular results. With an easy and exhilarating walk over immaculate chalky subsoil fairways, our championship course is regarded as the best draining inland course in the south east offering simply superb year round golf.
Since Harry Colt first created the course in the 1920’s, the club has hosted numerous prestigious events, including the regional qualifier for The Open Championship from 2006 to 2010.
The club was also delighted to host the Southern Regional Qualifier for the English Men's Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship, The Brabazon Trophy , in May 2014 and has been selected to host the England Golf Senior Men's County Championship Final in October 2019.
Our listed Georgian Clubhouse epitomises Effingham Golf Club’s traditional values, providing superb modern facilities including a newly refurbished Pro Shop and GC2 Simulator/Swing Studio, Private Dining Rooms, Lounge Bar, spacious Changing Rooms and a beautiful Terrace overlooking the frills of the 18th green.
We are proud of the quality and choice of our food offering, both in the clubhouse and at our Halfway Hut, and understand that our hospitality is as important as the golf itself…….. for some at least!

Very nice course
In spite of all the rain the course was in good shape. Greens a bit bouncy and very slow but good for this time of yearReviewer Rating

Great venue but greens are poor
I played here recently. The course was lovely with nice open fairways but with bunkers to make you think. Not too punishing of wayward shots. This means that good players can score well, but high handicappers also have an opportunity to enjoy the round.Staff were all very friendly and welcoming and the clubhouse was excellent.
The only thing that lets it down is the condition of the greens, They were very patchy and mottled - they clearly need a new agronomist. The condition was not acceptable for a "Top 100" course that charges £120 for a round of golf.
The condition made the greens very difficult to read - and you do need to read them carefully because there are many subtle borrows and big differences in the speed of uphill / downhill putts. This would be an enjoyable aspect of the golfing challenge but the variable surface condition was a serious obstacle to success.

I thought GBP50 for 9 holes as a guest was expensive. The member who took me had been told we could tee of at that time and play 9, however upon arrival it was not an option.Reviewer Rating

Hugely disappointed
I had been looking forward to playing Effingham since winning a 4-ball voucher in a charity auction earlier this year. Nothing was as I anticipated.Making the tee booking was not easy due to very limited times for visitors.
On arrival the staff were indifferent and we were unable to find an unlocked door for the clubhouse or locker rooms.
Worst of all was the state of the greens. Very patchy and unplayable.
I won't be returning and neither will my guests

Society Day at Effingham
Traditional members course. Harry Colt designed. Very heavily bunkered (84 bunkers?). Par 3 holes particularly difficult. Very good turf on fairways plus fast true greens. I found that driving was.easier - open fairways and rough not to tough. Played better than my handicap due to the high Slope. Excellent clubhouse food. Not a cheap venue but worth the money. Would happily play again, some local knowledge ideal (eg bunker positions and green slopes). Great views of distant London skylineReviewer Rating

New Course at Walton Heath
The course is predominantly flat and at some places intertwines with the old course. It is a fair challenge for most categories of golfer. It is pretty essential to make sure you hit straight off the tee in that there is plenty of heather to catch the stray shot. Even If you can find your ball, it is then a difficult shot out. The fairways and greens were in very good condition and the greens were very consistent. The clubhouse is excellent and staff were as ever first class. An enjoyable round of golf if not always straightforward.Reviewer Rating
