What the club says: The Summerhill Course, Dumfries and Galloway Golf Club’s championship eighteen hole, par 70, layout has magnificent views over the hills to the north of Dumfries.

All the fairways are generous, the rough is graded and cut to avoid prolonged ball searching, and a round can be enjoyed by all categories of golfer.

A holiday round.

Overall a forgiving course with wide playing areas if you include the first cut of rough. But that rough takes its toll on your subsequent shot. Greens were good - a little bit slower than I am used to but perfectly acceptable and better than many.

They operate what seemed a strange pricing system with a discount in early afternoon (Monday), but the quietness of the course on the back nine probably explained that. Members and singletons playing in front and behind all disappeared long before the 18th.

Didn't use the clubhouse as had to dash back to family holiday.

Parkland course in good condition, but unremarkable layout. On balance I think its more interesting than nearby Dumfries and County, but better still go to Powfoot (nearby)
