What the club says: Chelmsford Golf Club is one of the oldest traditional, private members' clubs in the county and celebrated its centenary in 1993. From modest beginnings, this gem of a parkland course is now recognised as one of the best in the County of Essex and is a ‘must’ for the discerning golfer. The 5996 yard par 68 course is always in excellent condition and a warm welcome always awaits the visitor or member in the clubhouse.

Quite Good
Turned up the day before lockdown and they tell you when you arrive no trolleys aloud which if you have an electric trolley bag is not great. Also temporary tees is use when the tee boxes looked great and the course is not being used for a month. This sort of thing is not unusual as it's not very well organised. The course layout also means the tee boxes are very close to the previous greens which makes stray shots interesting.Reviewer Rating

One of Essex best
Chelmsford has recently invested heavily in golf course and clubhouse improvements and the results really show. The course is in superb condition, the fairways in particular being quite outstanding compared to many course in the County that suffered badly in the drought. The greens too are in beautiful condition after much work on them over the last two years. Though relatively short the course is tight with many tree-lined fairways demanding accuracy off the tee at all times. This coupled with small highly contoured greens that, when dry, can be fiendish to stay on makes it a real challenge to score well. Recent bunker improvements and additions have produced some very attractive looking holes. There is a congenial half way hut serving food and drink. The extensive clubhouse refurbishment may not be to everyone's taste but is comfortable and welcoming despite COVID restrictions. The Pro's shop is very friendly and helpful in keeping with the overall welcoming atmosphere at the club. Practice facilities, limited to a practice net, a small putting green, and a pitching green, do not match the quality of the course, and uncollected practice balls scattered around parts of the course near the clubhouse detract from the overall impression.Though it cannot quite match the layouts of one or two local rivals it is a real pleasure to play here and very highly recommended.
