What the club says: Berkhamsted Golf Club, an English heathland classic, is ranked among England’s top 100 golf courses. Established in 1890, it offers GEO-certified golf as nature intended with gorse, heather and mature woodlands a constant factor. Unusually, there are no bunkers. Good drainage means it is an excellent year-round venue to visit. Since 1960 it has hosted The Berkhamsted Trophy, one of England’s top elite amateur golf events. Superstars like Sandy Lyle, Luke Donald, Nick Faldo and Lee Westwood have competed en route to greater things. In 2020 the Trophy opened up to female entries – a world-first for elite men’s amateur golf.
The club hosts annually one of the top amateur events that qualifies for World Ranking Points, an event which has seen names such as Sandy Lyle, Luke Donald, Nick Faldo, Lee Westwood, Tom Lewis and many others coming through the circuit on their way to greater things.

Played with a member off the white blocks so the course measured over 6,500 yards. Always a tough challenge. The greens were recovering well from hollow tining after the Berkhamstead Trophy open comp.. Rough just starting to "juice up"! The green keepers are continuing to remove gorse and trees around the course, which has the effect of making it less of a challenge than it was when I first played here over 30 years ago. Make sure that you tuck your shirt in - I was admonished by the starter (who looked like a tramp) while in the practice nets. You also need to park in the right part of the car park on certain days (no signage and no barrier) as the club built the overflow without permission! Back 9 was slow as we caught 4 balls.

Superb course but damn it's tricky

Excellent challenge but there's trouble everywhere. No bunkers. no ponds, but loads of deep rough and gorse, and heather. A course to play more than once because the first time you'll have trouble.
Very friendly staff, excellent starter. Great clubhouse. Good food.

Fabulous

Really good course. Brilliantly caved out of the surroundings. Don't miss the fairway because there's plenty of trouble just off it. Greens are superb. A course with no bunkers but plenty of swails with tough rough, and sometimes gorse, in them.
Excellent clubhouse and a really warm welcome.
