The first six holes are quite a walk but it levels out thereafter. If you need a buggy we keep plenty just in case! They are inexpensive and advised if you have difficulties.

What the club says: Designed by five times open champion James Braid , who has designed the layouts for many courses in the country. The traits of his design are shown with narrow fairways and challenging greens. This is one of the oldest courses in Devon and definitely one of the most scenic. The Jurassic walk runs through the course and there are views from Weymouth to Torquay.

Good Value
When we pulled into the car park we thought it looked in poor repair and we weren’t enthusiastic about playing. This got no better when we walked to the first tee to “take a look” and needed “gas and air”. We looked online at other options but couldn’t find anywhere so decided to play. We were glad that we did as the course was interesting, although the slopes can quickly turn seemingly good shots into lost balls. We were impressed by the course guide on each hole which showed clearly how to best attempt to play each hole. The 16th is a very interesting hole and arguably the most challenging on the course for visitors to play - certainly high handicap players like we are.Reviewer Rating

A Good Challenge
Having played Axe Cliff several times, I have always found it to be a great golf challenge. The course is not long, but it is a really good test even for a low handicap player. The two longer holes (9th and 10th) are rather boring, but the rest are all interesting with lovely coastal views and views along the Axe valley.Reviewer Rating

sea view experience
the holes 2 to 6 are all blind challenges, after these the course opens to dramatic views of the sea. With no tree to deflect the wind, this is the hazard to negotiate.the 7th is a dramatic view, across a valley, with a huge grass bunker just short on the right. the 15th is parallel with the cliffs and the 16th is a simple drive on the flat, and a chip off the "edge of the world", a very good course
