Panshanger Golf Complex Old Herns Lane Welwyn Garden City Herts. AL7 2ED
The Pitch and Putt Course at Panshanger is the perfect Par 3 course for beginners to get their teeth into golf. With excellent availability, decent facilities and an enjoyable nine-hole course, it’s ideal for casual golfers and families to come and enjoy a relaxed game of golf.
Facilities
The Panshanger Golf Complex, which also has an excellent 18-hole course, has an ample car-park. Indoors, the reception has a small golf shop, and a respectable range of clubs to hire out at your leisure. Left-handers are well facilitated.
Price
The price for an adult to play on the Pitch and Putt Course currently stands at a run-of-the-mill fee of £5.20 for adults, and £3.00 for juniors. Members with a reward card are able to get discounted prices.
The Course
The course itself is an idyllic and suitable place for both novices and young families looking for a fun afternoon of golf. The poor state of the green on the first hole gives an unfair first impression of the Par 3 course. The green is uneven and rough, and players will do exceptionally well to score under par.
On the second hole, the green improves dramatically, and the majority of the course remains at the same fine quality. The course offers a nice variety with slopes here and there, with a slightly testing – but not dramatic – change of distances from time to time.
There is also the odd challenge for players. On the sixth hole there are bunkers on either side – which definitely tests the golfer, but most importantly allows them to improve on their accuracy.
The final hole comes with a faintly tilted green which adds to the excitement and competition as the players enjoy the climax of the course.
My Experience
I’ve been the Pitch and Putt at Panshanger several times now, and have never left disappointed with the experience. I feel that the price is justifiable, the staff are amicable and the course is straightforward and enjoyable.
My only grumble would be at the state of the first green, and the occasional lumps of turf hacked at by careless players. But the general quality and facilities certainly makes up for it.
On the whole, I would recommend the nine-hole course to beginners, youngsters, families, and even the more-experienced golfers simply looking to quickly sharpen up their short game.
