With so many golf courses available to play it can be difficult to venture outside what you know, what you are used to playing and what others tell you to go and play. This time we take a look at 15 golf courses you might not have heard of before, that all come highly recommended, have had recent golfer validation as a must visit venue and haven't featured in a previous Golfshake article in the last 2 years.

Aberystwyth Golf Club

Location: West course of Wales

Review Comment: "I have been a regular visitor from the Midlands over the last 30 years. A real hidden gem. Superb course which has been sensitively improved over the last 10 years or so and it has never been in such good condition."

Braxted Park Golf Club

Location: Essex

Review Comment: "Found a wonderful, welcoming golf course. Greens are great and the rest of the course is well maintained. Don't be put off by the fact that it is a 9 holes. On the second 9 the tees are cleverly moved making it feel like you are playing a new back 9. I don't think I have ever been made to feel more welcome by the staff . Definitely recommend giving this one a go."

Bellingham Golf Club

Review Comment: "Bellingham golf course for those that are not familiar, is a total hidden gem, some fantastic holes and scenery. Always amazed by how quiet the place is. Well worth the travel to get there."

Charnwood Forest Golf Club

Review Comment: "Can't recommend this course more highly. Totally natural golf in a beautiful setting, and in superb condition. It might take a few rounds to really understand the course and its intricacies, but it is one of the most enjoyable places to play in Leicestershire."

Diss Golf Club

Review Comment: "The course was in superb condition with springy fairways upon which the ball sits up. Some of the greens are quite small, the surfaces are smooth and true and there are a lot of subtle breaks and slopes. At £40 it represents terrific value for money."

Review Comment: "Reasonably priced, welcoming, lovely breakfast so a great start to our society day. Then it got even better when we got out on the course. Varied holes, interesting layout and some spectacular views. Greens and fairways in great nick. Amazing place."

Oakland Park Golf Club

Review Comment: "Bit of a hidden gem this. Beautifully maintained with lovely greens and a perfect course for an afternoon round. We found the staff to be very helpful with a lovely bar, too. Very pleasant course, not particularly long but a fair challenge with some beautifully framed holes and interesting touches. Very easy walking with a fantastic pace of play. Worth every penny, too."
