Callaway Launches New XR OS Irons And Hybrids

By: Golfshake Editor | Tue 12 Jan 2016

Callaway Golf has today launched an extension to their popular XR family of products, with the introduction of the brand new XR OS Irons and Hybrids following on from last week's revealed XR 16 Driver and Fairway Wood.

Designed to complement its existing range of XR Irons, Callaway has developed a new, oversize design featuring second generation 360 Face Cup technology to deliver even more significant ball speeds across the clubface, allowing golfers to hit shots even further.

In addition to that, a 28% wider sole, when compared to the standard XR model, offers an enhanced level of turf-interaction and a lower CG, making the XR OS Irons much easier to launch and more forgiving to players, whilst still promoting maximum distance.

Dr. Alan Hocknell, Head of Research and Development at Callaway Golf, said: “Game improvers represent the widest demographic of golfers but we know one size does not fit all. With XR OS, we wanted to use the ball speed advantages of our second generation iron Cup Face in a way that helps them gain carry distance through the air."

The XR OS Irons have been manufactured using a meticulous and calculated dual heat treatment designed to optimise ball speed without in any way compromising feel. That objective has been enhanced further by a harder heat treatment on the face, which contrasts with the soft heat treatment across the body of the club.

Female golfers will also be delighted to hear that Callaway has developed a Women’s range of the XR OS Irons, featuring lighter head weights with higher lofts and flatter lie angles, which have been designed to suit them.

For golfers looking for an even greater level of forgiveness at the upper end of the bag, Callaway has also launched the new XR OS Hybrids, which possess the company's enhanced Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup, which helps to deliver the hottest ball speeds, even from off-centre strikes.

These new models feature a completely re-designed head shape from the popular X2 Hot Hybrids, with a CG 46% lower than that of their predecessors. This has all been aligned with a re-engineered Internal Standing Wave that has sharpened and enhanced how Callaway increases MOI, providing more noticable forgiveness and more significantly towering ball flights.

With those higher lofts, more offset and a super-deep CG, compared with the standard model, the XR OS Hybrids are even more forgiving, making it  easier for mid to high handicap golfers to launch the ball from all conditions they may encounter on the golf course.

The XR OS Irons and Hybrids will be available for retail on 22nd January 2016.
