Srixon, have for some years dominated the 2-piece ball market and have had a good amount of success with their premium Z-Star ball, but what happens if you want the performance of a premium, tour standard ball, but with out the price tag? Enter the Srixon AD333 Tour. A 3-piece ball that offers premium performance claim Srixon.
We sent three Golfshake readers out on the course at Studley Wood GC to put them to the test and find out just how good they are:
What Srixon say about the AD333 Tour
e AD333 Tour’s 3-piece construction features a super-soft urethane cover. This makes the AD333 Tour the ideal option for ambitious golfers looking to take their game to the next level with a ball that gives tour-level precision by combining distance, control and feel.
The AD333 Tour also features Srixon’s proprietary coating - Spin Skin Technology, as first produced for their premium Z-STAR range. With even greater control and spin on approach shots and with a superior soft feel thanks to a blended highly resilient soft mid layer.
Srixon AD333 Tour Reader Test
Feel
Jim Parkes 10 Handicap - The ball has a soft feel which gave you the feeling of compression when hit well and confidence that it would hold the greens
James Dawson 15 Handicap- Ball was soft and very responsive off the face. Around the greens it gave me confidence to attack the flag due to the amount of spin and hold it produced.
Phil Eadsforth 11 handicap - Feels softer round the practice green than the Standard Srixon AD333
Performance
Jim - I use pro v1x as a rule, I don't know why maybe down to advertising. I could not fault this ball in comparison, I felt the same consistent feel off the club both driving and with irons. I would be happy to use this as my regular ball
James - Ball performed flawlessly and responded well to a variety of shots around the green.
Phil - Great off the Tee. Just as long as the standard Srixon AD333 ball if not a little longer for me
Pros
Jim - Good clean premium feel ball
James - Soft and highly responsive ball; gave me great confidence around the greens.
Phil - Srixon AD333 Tour Ball is the better of the 2 balls for me. Soft & great feel round the greens plus it was long off the tee and didn't seem to spin too much.
Cons
Jim - None
James - On the shots where my ball striking wasn't as good as I wanted it to be, the ball would fall short of my intentions more than I would have hoped. This therefore leads to having to strike the ball pure to get the most out of it.
Phil - A little soft off the putter. I seemed to leave the putts with the Srixon AD333 Tour ball short. (that could obviously just be me though!)
The Bottom Line
Jim - The ball gave me the feel and confidence that I was using a high end premium ball. Personally I am looking to use a ball that doesn't leave me wondering if there is another ball that could have traveled further or offered more spin. Using this ball I was happy that I was getting the maximum I could from a golf ball
James - Excellent ball and one I am converted to. The poorer shots leave the ball shorter than hoped, but the benefit is you can attack the flag with confidence knowing it will respond how you expect as long as the strike is pure.
Phil - Srixon AD333 Tour Ball is certainly the better of the AD333 family of ball for me and it performed well really well on the course
