Reader Review - Mizuno MP-X Ball
Mizuno has made a big move in 2015 and have started to produce premium quality golf balls. Here we test one of three new Mizuno balls to enter the market - The MP-X.
We recently got our hands on the new range of Mizuno balls which is made up of three models - The MP-s, MP-X and JPX. Given Mizuno's history of producing superb product, we couldn't wait to get out and give the new balls a go. Here is how we got on with the Mizuno MP-X ball:
Mizuno MP-X
What Mizuno say
Mizuno has announced an MP-X ball to accompany the more responsive MP-S model for 2015.
The MP-X has been unveiled to help Mizuno expand its use amongst the next generation of tour players and elite amateurs. The 4 piece construction features a dual core design, which reduces spin from the driver – suited to more powerful ball strikers. A new, thinner 0.5mm urethane cover enhances initial ball speed, while a 330 dimple configuration creates a highly efficient flight.
Alex Thorne, European Head of Tour Operations, “For the majority of tour players and elite level players, we’ve found the low spin characteristics of the MP-X off the tee, make it more predictable in the long game. Club players who generate a little less spin naturally, will match up better with the MP-S.”
- Refined Urethane Cover: Reduced to 0.5mm thickness for increased initial velocity.
- 330 Dimple pattern: Configured for more stable ball flight.
- 4 piece construction: Adapted for stability at high ball speeds.
Owen's Review (Golfshake Staffer) Hcp +2
I really, really enjoyed this ball! It's design for higher ball speeds made a difference to me allowing for greater control and a nice flight. It was superb from both the tee and around the greens where the feel was superb!
A ball to rival anything on the market!
Matt's Review Hcp 14
Felt very very soft on impact. Seemed to create me extra side-spin which meat when hitting off the tee with driver was able to keep it under control as much. The more lofts club I used the more control I had which would suggest to me that this ball would be suited for a lower handicapped golfer that has a far more consistant ball strike.
Kevin's Review Hcp 16
It was no surprise that the MP-X (a ball Chris Woods is currently playing) didn’t really work that well for me. It had far too much spin on my off-centre strikes (which there are many!)
Once out on the course the Trackman numbers confirmed that the MP-X is not the ball for me and was more difficult to control. For me (16 hcp), I probably hit very few out of the middle of the club during a round, so the lack of forgiveness didn’t help me.
