World of Golf Professional Conducts 50,000th Lesson

By: Golf Shake | Wed 03 Dec 2014

World of Golf Master Professional Jon Woodroffe hit a special milestone at the weekend (30 November) when he conducted his 50,000th golf lesson in a career spanning more than 30 years.

The official 50,000th lesson saw the popular Surrey-based Professional fine-tuning the game of promising 16-year-old Callum Elliott at the World of Golf’s newly-opened Performance Centre at New Malden, south-west London. To mark the occasion, Woodroffe – who specialises in teaching beginners and has won a Golf Foundation award for coaching disabled children – was also greeted by 61-year-old Bob Dove, his very first student from 1981.

“My aim from day one has always been to introduce more people like Callum and Bob to the game of golf and make the sport enjoyable for players of all ages,” said Woodroffe, who was recently named PGA Coach of the Year for the South of England. “To make it to 50,000 lessons means a lot to me and I’d like to thank every golfer who’s helped develop my coaching style since I first started back in 1981.”

Woodroffe has introduced more than 20,000 players to golf in over three decades and, more recently, he was appointed to head up the well-received Golf Development programme for junior players at World of Golf. He has also been awarded the status of Advanced Fellow of the PGA, a level attained by only 1% of British PGA Professionals.

“World of Golf is privileged to have someone of Jon’s expertise within its ranks, particularly when it comes to teaching young beginners and attracting more people to the sport,” said CEO Grant Wright. “We’d like to congratulate him on his 50,000th lesson – a fantastic achievement.”

Jon Woodroffe is part of a team of nine highly-rated coaches at World of Golf and is qualified to lead lessons in the new Performance Centre, the most advanced golf teaching facility in the UK.
