New TaylorMade R Series Irons - RSi 1 & RSi 2

By: Adam Smith | Wed 15 Oct 2014

TaylorMade have today launched their new series of irons fitted with revolutionary Face Slot Technology.

The R Series Slotted irons (RSi) come in three different models; RSi 1, RSi 2 and RSi Tour Preferred which all include the Face Slot Technology making the RSi irons TaylorMade’s longest iron even when you miss the sweet spot.

All models also include the Speed Pocket which was launched earlier in the year by victorious Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley. The Speed Pocket with ThruSlot technology is featured in irons 3 to 7 and provides ball speed protection on shots below the centre of the club face, thus increasing launch angle and ball speed on all shots.

Face Slot Technology

Found in irons 3 to 8, Face Slot Technology is two slots located near the heel and toe of the clubface that provide more flexibility across the clubface. This essentially protects the ball speed at impact which generates a more consistent hit when striking off centre, which even the professionals do occasionally, as TaylorMade so rightly say in their slogan for the RSi models, ‘Nobody’s Perfect.’

Director of Product Creation for irons, wedges and putters at TaylorMade, Tomo Bystedt says that the new Face Slot Technology gives players a more all-round performance:

“We’ve taken everything we’ve learned about Speed Pocket Technology and have been able to apply it into the face. Face Slot Technology provides greater consistency across the face, giving players improved performance on mishit shots.”

RSi 1

TaylorMade’s thinnest face yet with deep undercut and Inverted Cone Technology together provides maximum club face speed. It also generates improved sound and feel at the strike thanks to advanced construction and multiple dampening systems.

Available in steel and graphite shafts from 3-iron all the way to lob wedge the new technology makes mis-hitting a thing of the past.

RSi 2

Where Forged and Tungsten Technology meets Face Slots the RSi2 irons offer something for everyone with the perfect blend of looks and technology.

There’s a combination of added tungsten weights in 3-5 irons, Speed Pocket Technology is once again present in irons 3-7 along with Face Slot Technology in irons 3-8. There are also forged faces in irons 8-PW and a forged head in the approach wedge.

The blend of performance and beauty delivers the full package in the RSi2 which also comes with the KBS Tour 105 shaft.

RSi TP

The most complete forged tour iron on the market with advanced two-piece welded construction for both feel and performance.

Along with the revolutionary Face Slot Technology and Speed Pocket the TP irons have a carbon steel face and hosel combined with stainless steel back bar forming a compact head size, minimal offset and a thin topline.

Bystedt says the TP irons where designed to take TaylorMade tour professionals to the next level:

“The RSi TP irons were developed to deliver distance, launch, consistency and feel for the best players in the world.
“The shapes of these irons will be instantly pleasing to better players and will have the feel and workability that golfers expect in a forged product.”

The RSi 1 and RSi 2 are available November 14 with the RSi TP following early next year in January. RRP are £699, £829 & £949 for the RSi 1, RSi 2 and RSi TP respectively.
