Mixuno announces MP tour range - Tested by Luke Donald

By: | Tue 05 Aug 2014

Mizuno has just announced its new Mizuno Pro (MP) tour sample range, including; the MP-15 with an evolved Ti Muscle technology, the new type MP-H5 complete with ‘hollow flow’ concept and the MP-T5 wedges that offer 25 different loft and bounce combinations.

Mizuno has been busy developing and evolving its technologies at its global headquarters in Japan and researching into how it can improve the game of its many fans and pros worldwide. It wanted to see if one of its global ambassadors, Luke Donald, felt the benefits of the research and development.

One of the most exciting developments in the Mizuno Pro (MP) range are the stunning new MP-T5 wedges. Due to a lack of loft and bounce options in the market Mizuno has now added 25 variations, with two sole types to the new range, resulting in the company now boasting 50 loft options to the MP-T5. The wedges now cater for all techniques and turf conditions which places them head and shoulders above the market and competitor averages for example; Titleist currently offer 42 variations and PING only 26. The new wedges deliver the touch and precision of Mizuno’s renowned Grain Flow Forging construction where it benefits most, around the greens and the lush Black IP plated finish is designed to maintain its looks over time. Mizuno relied pretty heavily on the grind that Luke has on his wedges when they were putting this set together.

“I like a decent amount of loft round the green…It’s kinda nice to know that I’ve made a difference on how these clubs are designed.” Luke Donald.

“The challenge with the MP-T5 was to find a way to increase spin. It came down to square-ness of hit, which is achieved differently depending on your technique. So we added a huge variation of bounce and loft options.” Chris Voshall, Senior Engineer, Mizuno.

The MP-T5 wedges retail at £110 per wedge and are available from September 2014.

Having first played with the MP-59’s and then moving onto MP-64’s Mizuno knew they had to find a model that gave the best of both world’s to really make an impact on Luke’s game. The MP-15, embodies the definitive balance of tradition and technology for the stronger ball striker, with clean and compact lines designed to enhance feel and workability. It features the award winning Ti Muscle technology and by using lighter materials Mizuno has been able to keep all the workability, manoeuvrability and shot making capabilities of what is traditionally found in an MP golf club.

“You want that solid strike, everyone as a golfer knows what that feels like…
This is a club that appeals to me. The centre of gravity on the smaller ones is a little lower so you can control trajectory very well but also has a good solid feel.  It’s one of the reasons I love Mizuno, it’s nice to see the blend of both craftsmanship and technology” Luke Donald.

The MP-15 will retail at £115.00 per iron and will be available from September 2014.

The MP-H5, is a direct replacement of the current market leader, the MP Fli-Hi. It has a half hollow design which has been developed to meet the demands of a modern golf course. In the development of this set, Mizuno were conscious to keep the launch high but reduce the amount of spin. The great thing about this set is that the technology transforms as you go down and going from a full hollow design to a half hollow is a really nice transition. The MP-H5 takes the best parts of the MP-H4 and the MP Fli-Hi to build in that forgiveness and workability, while at the same time appealing to a golfer with a handicap of zero, this range really speaks to everything that better golfer looks for.

“MP-H5 will suit players who have grown up on traditional irons, but don’t want to be left behind on distance and stopping power. In another 10 years we think the majority of tour players will be using irons like this.” Chuck Couch, VP of Product Management, Mizuno.

The MP-H5 has an RRP of £115 per iron and is available from September 2014.

David Matthews, European Marketing Manager at Mizuno said: “We’re incredible proud to announce this fantastic new tour range and variations. Not one player is the same, nor do they have the same technique. Having Luke test out and endorse the need for variety on this fantastic new range of clubs that pro’s and scratch golfers can add to their bags is a real testament to the development of this range.”
