Following last week's RBC Canadian Open and picking out Snedeker we are this week assessing the golf betting opportunities in the field for 2 events - the WGC Bridgestone Invitational, taking place at Firestone CC in Ohio and the Reno-Tahoe Open, taking place at Montreux G&CC in Nevada .
WGC Bridgestone Invitational
Firestone CC is a long 7,400 yard par 70 and ranked as the 16th most difficult course out of 49 on the PGA Tour in 2012. As an invitational event the field is very strong and Tiger heads the betting as a 7 time winner of this event.
Like you would expect from a WGC event the course contains some tricky holes but the birdies are there to be had for the guys who play well. The course is an all-around challenge, with length and accuracy off the tee particularly helpful.
Players to watch...
Tiger Woods (5/1) 1st all-around ranking, 18th for total driving and a 7-time winner of this event.
Justin Rose (25/1) 2nd all-around and 1st for total driving.
Adam Scott (16/1) 17th all-around and 13th for total driving.
Charl Schwartzel (40/1) 18th all-around and 24th for total driving.
Keegan Bradley (50/1) 7th all-around, 4th for total driving and the defending champion.
Reno-Tahoe Open
Montreux G&CC is a 7,472 yard par 72 and it hosts this unique event in that it uses modified stableford scoring rather than the traditional strokeplay. The points system being:
Eagle +5pts, Birdie +2pts, Par 0pts, Bogey -1pt, Double Bogey or worse -3pts
The theory is that this makes the event more exciting by encouraging players to go for the reward while making the risks bigger.
The key skills at this course are hitting the ball straight off the tee and then hitting the greens + getting your head around the scoring system!
Players to watch...
Kevin Stadler (50/1) 10th for GIR but will need to improve his driving accuracy (91st) if he is to repeat his 2007 performance, when he was 2nd.
Richard Lee (50/1) 29th for driving accuracy and 53rd for GIR – but finished 10th and 20th in those categories last year
Justin Hicks (125/1) 6th for driving accuracy and 11th for GIR - we are awaiting his big breakthrough…
Kevin Sutherland (100/1) 32nd for driving accuracy and 18th for GIR.
