Get Into Golf Campaign Aims to Make a Splash
Golf officials in Cumbria are hoping to make a big splash with their latest pitch for newcomers to the sport.
The Cumbria County Golf Partnership will be attending the Great North Swim on June 15 and 16.
Would-be golfers will be able to give the sport a go in a special inflatable net using real clubs and balls.
The Great North Swim, on Lake Windermere, is Europe's biggest open water swimming event with more than 10,000 expected to take part from June 14-16.
Golf is increasingly being taken out into the local community as part of the campaign to encourage more people to give the sport a go.
Says Nicola Martindale, development officer for the Cumbria County Golf Partnership: “Golf clubs can no longer sit back and expect new players – and potential club members – to turn up at their door.
“It is important that the sport takes a proactive approach to getting out and about in the local community and showing what the sport has to offer in terms of healthy exercise and an enjoyable social life.”
The national Get into golf campaign is run by the England Golf Partnership through its network of County Golf Partnerships, which work to grow the game.
Get into golf opportunities include free or low-cost beginner courses with PGA professionals. They are a fun and sociable way to start golf – and a great way to make new friends.
