Bludau Tames Faldo Course to Seal Series in Germany

4414-faldoYannick Bludau was victorious in the third Faldo Series Germany Championship at the Sporting Club Berlin in Bad Saarow.  The 20-year-old fired rounds of 70 and 72 on the Faldo Course to finish on two under par and win by two.

"It was a great event on a really challenging course,” said Bludau.  “I am thrilled to win and can’t wait to meet Sir Nick Faldo in person at the final.”

“This year’s field was the strongest we’ve ever had which resulted in great golf on both days,” added Vanessa Herbon, Director of A-ROSA Golf & Sport.  “Thanks to all the sponsors for their generous support.”

Bludau from Marienburger will now compete in the 16th Faldo Series Grand Final, to be hosted by Faldo at Lough Erne Resort in Northern Ireland on September 11-13.  Three other age group winners heading to Lough Erne are Hurly Long (Boys’ Under-18), Felix Bode (Boys’ Under-16) and Michele Prigoschin (Girls’ Under-21).

Friederike Notzmann booked her place in the Grand Final by winning a sudden death play-off.  “I had a strong feeling that I would win the play-off and here I am, happy as never before," commented the Girls’ Under-16 winner after coming through with a birdie on the third extra hole.

Faldo’s personal coach, Keith Wood was again present in Germany to work with competitors and also local school children who experienced golf for the first time: “After three years of the Faldo Series in Germany, it is great to see the interest in golf increasing and some really talented players coming through.”

Supported by The R&A, the European Tour and Lough Erne Resort, the 2012 Faldo Series Europe schedule features a record 20 tournaments in 14 countries including six in England plus others in Bahrain, Ireland, Chile, the Czech Republic, Greece, Wales, Austria, Brazil, Germany, The Netherlands, Scotland, Slovakia and Russia.

Established in 1996, 38 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 28 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year.  Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.
Leading final scores: Boys’ Under-21: 142 – Yannick Bludau (70-72); 144 – Kal Rastetter (70-74); 149 – Simon Taylor (76-73).  Boys’ Under-18: 146 – Hurly Long (72-74); 153 – Christoph Homolle (79-74); 154 – Julian Wernickle (79-75).  Boys’ Under-16: 151 – Felix Bode (79-72); 152 – Tim Bombosch (74-78); 153 – Kenji Nakajima (73-80). Girls’ Under-21: 172 – Michele Prigoschin (87-85); 174 – Ann Christin (86-88); 175 – Anna Maria Kokott (88-87).  Girls’ Under-16: 157 – Friederike Notzmann (79-78), Finnja Kietzke (81-76), Sonja Wickermeyer (79-78).
