It has been a while coming but England’s Richard Mansell finally landed his maiden DP World Tour title, claiming the rain-shortened Singapore Classic.

The 29-year-old, who made his DP World Tour debut in 2021, was one shot off the lead going into the final round of a tournament reduced to 54 holes after Thursday's washout. He moved into the lead with five birdies in a row from the fourth hole, then held off the challenge of Japan's Keita Nakajima to win by one stroke at Laguna National Golf Resort Club.

Mansell two-putted from more than 100 feet for a birdie at the 18th to card a six-under-par round of 66 and finish on 16 under overall.

He said: "I've just had to really, really stay patient and forget everyone else. That was my main thing today - to focus on myself. It makes those near-misses and when I've got ahead of myself in the past just kind of worth it. It just means that much more

"In 2022 I had quite a few close calls and didn't get it done. Looking back on it, I probably should have kept doing what I was doing and it probably would have happened a lot sooner.

"But I went searching, I tried to change and I became quite good at pointing the finger, blaming other people why it hadn't happened.

"I started just not enjoying it as much and I just got a little bit lost from where I'd actually come from. It's taken a lot of work these past six months. Ellie, my wife, has been so supportive. So many people have supported me and believed in me when I stopped doing it myself."

Nakajima, who shot six birdies in his 65, finished one stroke ahead of Northern Ireland's Tom McKibbin - playing his first DP Tour event since switching to LIV Golf - and France's Adrien Saddier, who both went round in 68.

Player Profile

Richard Mansell

Richard Mansell was born in Lichfield on April 24, 1995.

Mansell turned professional in 2017 and began playing on the EuroPro Tour. He claimed his first professional win in July 2019 at the Cobra Puma Championship.

He played on the Challenge Tour in 2019 and 2020, finishing fourth on the Road to Mallorca Rankings, gaining status on the DP World Tour for the 2021 season. The highlights of 2020 were runner-up finishes at the Andalucia Challenge and the Euram Bank Open. Mansell qualified for the 2021 Open via final qualifying at Hollinwell.

He had limited status for the 2022 season after finishing 155th on the Race to Dubai the year prior. But he made the most of his playing opportunities in 2022 as he went on to regain full playing privileges after finishing 44th on the Rankings in a year which, despite limited starts, included two third-place finishes and four further top tens. In October 2022, he held the 54-hole lead at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. He had a four shot lead going into Sunday, but a final-round 76 saw him drop to tied-for-seventh place.

This was his 104th start. He has made 76 cuts, finishing second once, third three times and enjoying a further 11 top-10 finishes. He started the tournament in 94th place in the Race to Dubai and has moved up to 10th.
