More UK Golf Courses Have Suffered Vandalism
The vandalism of golf courses throughout the UK has become endemic in recent years - leading some clubs to take drastic action - but we are saddened to see that the problem is continuing as the new season approaches.
Members and staff at Temple Newsam Golf Club in Leeds were shocked to discover that their beloved layout had been targeted by quad-bike riding vandals who left significant damage to the sixth hole of the course that is owned and managed by Leeds City Council.
This beloved municipal has previously been attacked by individuals riding electric bikes. This latest incident was discovered on the morning of 14th March.

West Yorkshire Police have been told about the vandalism, with a Leeds City Council spokesperson commenting, as reported by Yorkshire Evening Post: "Damage to the golf course at Temple Newsam was reported to the police as soon as it was discovered. The council strongly condemns the actions of those responsible.
"Since being discovered, the on-site team worked quickly to undertake remedial works to the sixth tee and to create a temporary putting surface. As part of the plans for the new play area, cycling track and cafe, CCTV and a range of other security measures are included."
Moving to the North of Scotland, the superb Elgin Golf Club was attacked over three nights in February. First reported by Bunkered, the club's greenkeeping Facebook page revealed: "I was hoping to supply the members with a post of updating the course and what has been done over the past few weeks but unfortunately over the past three nights we have had vandalism on holes 9, 10, 11 and 14 from someone entering the golf course on what we think is an e-bike.
"We are posting this with the hope that members or the public walking their dogs or anyone passing the golf course seeing anything will report it to ourselves or the police so that we can catch the people vandalising the golf course."
In recent years, Elgin has previously faced similar incidents, with a vehicle (possibly a pick-up truck) leaving tire tracks on the fairways in October 2021.
Golf clubs have many challenges to deal with throughout the year and these disgraceful and senseless actions are an additional burden that they can do without.
