6 Things to Know About LIV Golf Adelaide 2025

LIV Golf continues to fiercely divide opinion - both due to the origins of its financial backing and the nature of its format - but there is no question that the circuit's most visibly successful chapter has come whenever it has stopped in Australia.

There has long been a strong golf culture starved of attention Down Under, and LIV has attempted in recent years to satisfy that craving by attracting significant crowds to follow the action in Adelaide.

Looking ahead to the third edition of this showpiece in South Australia, here are some things to give you a flavour of what to expect should you be planning to watch in the UK on ITV or through other platforms elsewhere.

Where is LIV Golf Adelaide Being Played?

The Grange Golf Club is once again the host for LIV Golf Adelaide, and it's a perfect venue given that it's located within the city itself. Home to a pair of superb and acclaimed courses - the East and West - the Grange deploys the best holes from each design in a composite layout for the tournament.

Holes 9-10 and 12-18 of the East, redesigned by former LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman in 2012, will serve as the front-nine of the composite, while the back-nine of the West (redesigned by Mike Clayton) is the second half of the track used this week.

The 165-yard par-3 12th hole is the highlight of the event, nicknamed the Watering Hole, as it offers spectators a stadium-like party atmosphere to enhance the occasion.

How Many Fans Are Expected to Attend?

Some LIV events have been criticised for being sparsely attended, but that is certainly not the case in Adelaide. More than 77,000 fans attended the first Adelaide tournament in 2023, with that number increasing to 94,000 last year. More than 30 different nationalities were represented in the crowd, with a significant number of fans (40%) coming from outside South Australia, showing the draw that this particular event holds. We can expect similar numbers - if not more - this weekend.

Which Team Should I Be Watching?

We suspect that you may be most intrigued by Legion XIII (which is home to Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Tom McKibben and Caleb Surratt), but given that it's Adelaide, the attention will once again be on Ripper GC (featuring former Open champion Cameron Smith, Marc Leishman, Lucas Herbert and Matt Jones), who won a dramatic playoff 12 months ago to secure the team title for Australia.

What Do The Aussies Think?

It's an exciting week for those Australian players, who described exactly what this event means to them.

Cam Smith said: "I always knew internally that Australia would really embrace LIV with the culture, with the music, with the entertainment, everything that goes on around it. I always felt like this was the place where it was going to make it big, and how it’s been the last couple of years has been just insane."

Matt Jones added: "Walking down every fairway, it’s not even close to any event you’ll ever experience, for myself personally. The amount of times you hear go Rippers, go Jonesy is unbelievable, and that doesn’t happen very often."

Lucas Herbert commented: "Adelaide has some parallels that work across LIV as well. For us, we’re a league. For them, they’re a city. They’re on the up. They’re trending in the right direction. Adelaide is a perfect fit for LIV Golf in Australia."

Finally, Marc Leishman said: "Adelaide is a great city. The week of the LIV event, the city just buzzes. Not just at the golf course but the entire city. All the events are great events but the Australian event is just that step above. It’s seriously one of the coolest events I’ve ever played."

What is The Prize Money?

It goes without saying that the prize fund this week is massive - totalling $20m for the individual tournament (with $4m going to the winner) and $5m for the team event, with $3 going to the winning side.

How Can I Watch LIV Golf Adelaide?

LIV Golf Adelaide will be televised in the UK during the early hours of the morning on ITV4 at 2am on Friday, and 1am on Saturday and Sunday, with ITVX being the streaming option for you to catch up on anything that you missed.
