Why Graphite Golf Shafts Could Be Better For You
Graphite shafts are commonplace in your drivers and woods, but you might not have considered them for your irons, with steel being the go-to material for the majority of golfers.
However, continued advancements in technology and innovation have made graphite a more favourable option, and not just for senior golfers and those who require a lighter club to swing.
Golfshake's Equipment Expert, Ryan Rastall, has admitted to being a little prejudiced against graphite shafts for irons, but spending time with KBS has changed his viewpoint dramatically, opening the door to create even more possibilities for golfers to find the ideal setup for their game.
Chatting with KBS Tour rep Paul Steels, Ryan heard all about the benefits of graphite and why more golfers should consider adopting it within their irons, but the ultimate proof would be based on careful testing.
From his Indoor Performance Centre at Howley Hall Golf Club in Leeds, Ryan compared his steel shafts to the latest graphite shafts from KBS.
To make this an accurate examination, Ryan used his Ben Hogan 7-iron for the experiment, fitting equivalent heads that were crafted to the exact same loft and lie as well as being swing-weighted to ensure that they were as similar as possible, but with each golf club using a different shaft.
Starting with his own KBS steel shaft, Tour V (120 Grams), Ryan then hit shots with a range of KBS graphite shafts in the form of TGI (110 Grams), PGI (90 Grams) and Max (85 Grams), to provide an accurate comparison to showcase the benefits of graphite and explain how the right shaft could be a game-changer for you in a variety of ways, whether it be the desire for a lighter club, increased dispersion control or assistance with your ball flight.

Let's take a closer look at the graphite shafts featured and what they could offer you.
KBS TGI
This has been created for those golfers who most desire a shaft that feels like steel, offering similar control and performance in a graphite shaft. This is the first KBS graphite shaft to play just like KBS Steel with optimised weight and stiffness.
KBS PGI
Created by master shaft maker Kim Braly, the KBS PGI is another graphite shaft that delivers steel-like performance, offering the same tight tolerances, dispersion and control but in the form of a lighter weight and easier to swing shaft.
KBS MAX
Finally, based on the design of the KBS MAX Steel Shaft, this graphite version has been engineered to help those golfers with lower swing speeds to hit the ball higher. This performance graphite iron shaft will offer you greater trajectory, spin, and distance in a consistent, lightweight package.
