The Golf Gadgets You Need For 2025
We all know one - the golfer who simply must have the latest gadget. And will probably bore you to tears during the course of a round to extol the virtues of said gadget, while failing miserably to prove any real benefits!
As we head into a new year it seems like a timely opportunity to consider the gadgets you may want to add to your own collection.
Heated Gilet
I recently played on a bitterly cold winter’s day with a fellow senior who was wearing a heated gilet. And I laughed out loud. Let me tell you that I wasn’t laughing by the time we walked off the 18th green. I was f-f-f-f-f-f-r-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-zing. And he wasn’t. The beauty of a heated gilet is that a good one will allow you to choose whether you want to activate the front, the rear or the entire thing. And they can be recharged via a USB.
Heated Gloves
I have always sworn by thermal gloves. And as good as they are, they are knocked into the middle of next week by a good pair of heated gloves. You will be able to play every shot with the best of them, although others will require you to remove them when playing. Make your own choice but if you play winter golf these are a must-have gadget.
Heated Beanie
So if you are splashing on a heated gilet and gloves, why wouldn’t you also want to finish off the look with a heated beanie - especially if you are follicly-challenged!
GPS
Almost every single club golfer I know now uses a distance device of some description, whether it be a hand-held laser device or a GPS watch. And they cannot all be wrong. Yours truly has always depended on gauging distances from the 150-yard marker but that is so yesterday’s news. I am buying a device, and so should you. Apart from anything else, have you any idea whether the 150-yard marker is giving you the distance to the front, middle or back of the green? It can make a HUGE difference. And the reality is that a lot of courses do not feature markers.
Remote-Controlled Trolley
The ultimate gadget for the world’s laziest golfer. A word of warning - try it out BEFORE using it for the first time on the course because that remote control can be pretty tricky and could make you look very silly!
All-In-One-Multitool
This comprehensive golf multitool includes a golf pitch mark repairer, divot repair tool, golf markers for putting green, and a removable pen, making it an essential piece of golf equipment for all enthusiasts.
Groove Sharpener
Regular use of your irons will result in your grooves being dulled. This is seriously bad news, especially with your wedges. You can get away with it during the winter months when the greens are wet but not in the summer. A groove sharpener is cheap, simple to use and will keep your irons fit for purpose.
Groove Cleaner
Grooves help you to control spin. There is no point in keeping them sharp if they are clogged full of dirt and mud. You should, of course, be regularly cleaning your clubs in warm, soapy water, but a groove cleaner is the ideal solution while on the golf course.
Ball Retriever
This is a no-brainer. We ALL hit golf balls into lakes, ponds and rivers. And there is nothing more frustrating than being able to see your ball without being able to reach it. Golf-ball retrievers are cheap and will earn their keep for you in no time at all.
Alignment Sticks
If every single tournament professional uses alignment sticks to check their set-up (and they do), then why wouldn’t you do the same thing? They take up next to no room, can be permanently left in your golf bag and, like a ball retriever, will cost very little.
Launch Monitor
OK, so now we are wandering into the realms of serious money. Not everybody can afford to buy one and not everybody would either want or benefit from one. This is the gadget for the golfer who has everything (apart from a launch monitor) and is deadly serious about his or her game. For guidance only, a Trackman launch monitor will set you back about £18,000. Not for the faint of heart then!
Golf Grip Trainer
The vast majority of club golfers grip their clubs incorrectly. It’s a fact. The price of a couple of pints of beer will buy you a hand-held device that automatically puts your hands in the right place.
Putting Mat
Perhaps the area of the game that is most neglected by club golfers is putting. Put that right by investing in a putting mat that can be used just about anywhere in the house.
Practice Net
Most of you enjoy hitting golf balls but not all of us can find the time to fit in regular sessions at the driving range. So why not buy yourself a practice net instead. All you will need is a mat and a bit of room in your back garden.
Sunglasses
For that one day of the year when the thermometer hits 30C, the sky is blue and the sun is beating down, why not fork out a small fortune on a proper pair of designer sunglasses.
If you already have all of the above then I have to say it - you are a proper golfer!
