TaylorMade P770 & P7CB Irons Review

Tour Feedback & Design Inspiration

Tour feedback and exhaustive analysis led to the creation of a compact, clean profile in both the P·770 and P·7CB clubheads.

While both P·770 and P·7CB irons have the profile of a players iron with their thin top line and smaller blade, golfers will notice a significantly thinner, more compact shape in P·7CB. Regardless of which irons golfers choose, they will benefit from a look that exudes confidence, control, and precision that discerning ball strikers rely on. At the same time, the tried-and-true performance benefits of P·Series irons live on.

In the P·770 irons, a modified leading edge encourages both consistent shot shaping and clean turf interaction. The sole camber and progressive bounce profile of each P·7CB iron ensures consistent turf interaction throughout the bag.

In 2024, Rory McIlroy won with the P·7CB 4-iron in play at the Zurich Classic and Wells Fargo Championship. Collin Morikawa found success with the P·7CB 4-iron in three consecutive top-five finishes at the PGA Championship, the Charles Schwab Challenge and The Memorial Tournament. In addition to his P·7CB 4-iron, Morikawa added a full set of P·7CB irons 5-PW for the Scottish Open where he finished T4 and played them at the Open Championship as well. Tommy Fleetwood also played the P·7CB 3-iron at the Scottish and Open Championship.

Pure Feel & Feedback

Both P·770 and P·7CB irons are strategically engineered to provide golfers with exceptional feel. P·770 irons utilise players forged construction to deliver pure feel at impact as well as exacting sound, responsiveness, and feedback.

Matt Bovee, Global Category Director - Irons and Wedges, said: "We’ve done a lot of work to fine-tune the feel of the new P·770. This is the ideal iron for the player that needs some forgiveness and performance benefits but doesn’t want to sacrifice any feel or control. In my opinion, this is our most forgiving, best feeling P·770 to date."

P·7CB irons are crafted using Compact Grain Forging and 2,000 tons of pressure to create the purest feeling, most responsive 1025 soft carbon steel possible.

Consistent Shot Making Throughout The Bag

Consistency continues to be a keynote performance feature in the P·Series family. Both the P·770 and P·7CB irons incorporate precision milled faces and grooves that promote consistent launch and spin for optimal trajectory and distance control.

TaylorMade’s FLTD CG is a prominent component in P·770 irons. It positions the CG lower in the long irons and progressively higher in the short irons to foster ideal launch conditions with each individual club.

Additionally, an updated tungsten weight and a slightly wider sole ensure consistent flight in the short and mid irons, while making the long irons easy to launch and exceptionally forgiving.

P·7CB irons have a constant CG that gives players confidence knowing that every single shot is going to leave the club in a predictable window with the right amount of spin for precision shot shaping.

Matt Bovee, commented: "We designed the P·7CB with the better player in mind.  In working with these players directly they told us, ‘give me precision, give me forgiveness, give me consistency, but do it in a compact head shape.’ The new P·7CB delivers a combination of feel and forgiveness in compact shape beyond anything TaylorMade has created in the past."
