Callaway Opus Wedge Review - New Wedges Launched For 2024

By: Golfshake Editor | Mon 15 Jul 2024

Callaway's wedges are widely considered to rank among the very best in the industry, so golfers should be excited by the launch of the new Opus, which showcases an exciting technology in Spin Gen Face that brings three elements of spin together to deliver even greater short game control.

Golfshake's Ryan Rastall has tested both the Opus and Opus Platinum, describing the innovations behind them and even compares them to his current set of Callaway Jaws wedges. You can watch his review on YouTube or at the bottom of this page.

Callaway Opus Wedges - What You Need to Know

Callaway Opus Wedges

Spin Gen Face Technology provides spin and control in your wedges by combining three key elements on the face. An all-new tighter pitch puts more grooves on the face, offset groove-ingroove provides spin when opening the face, and a new aggressive face blast provides spin and bite on partial shots. These three elements work in conjunction to provide a crisp that is appreciated by the world's best players.

Opus wedges are the most tour-tested, tour-validated shapes that the manufacturer has released. They boast a higher toe peak, radius in the leading edge, and easier hosel transitions, which makes it the brand's most effective wedge shape yet.

Finding the right grind for your swing is paramount in wedge play. With Opus, Callaway offers a complete lineup of sole shapes from narrow to wide, available in the popular S grind, forgiving W, versatile C, and tour-favourite T grind.

You can choose two finishes for your Opus wedges; a brushed chrome and black shadow. A raw version is also available only in custom. Stock shaft options include True Temper Dynamic Gold MID 115g (steel) and UST Recoil DART HDC shaft 65g (graphite), paired with the Golf Pride Tour Velvet +2 Gray.

The Callaway Opus Platinum wedges feature tungsten weighting and MIM (metal injection moulding) technology to push the CG higher compared to the Opus to provide even greater control.

  • Opus Pricing: £179
  • Opus Platinum Pricing: £229
