The spotlight of the golf world is firmly fixed on Scotland this summer as the spiritual home of the game stages the Scottish Open at East Lothian's Renaissance Club, which is the prelude to The 152nd Open at Royal Troon in Ayrshire. Then it will be back east for the Senior Open at Carnoustie, before the best female golfers on the planet gather in St Andrews for the AIG Women's Open in August.
It's a feast of championship golf - and it might inspire you to play a few rounds in the heartlands of Caledonia. However, you could be put off by the required cost to access the most celebrated layouts in the land - and that is understandable - but there are so many wonderful places that can be experienced for a comparatively modest price.
We have searched across the nation to identify 60 of the best golf courses in Scotland that you can play for under £50.
From tranquil and scenic parklands to rugged links tracks and those gems found on islands located off the west coast, there is something for everyone here. The only factor was that they required a minimum Golfshake Rating of 4.20 (rated by everyday golfers) and offered peak season green fees that didn't surpass £50.

Front nine holes for the thinking golfer and back nine for accuracy and big hitters. Course has a 19th hole for deciding a winner after a tie and for finishing hole after nine holes. Come and play."

The clubhouse looks a bit shabby compared to some but don't be fooled. The fairways and greens were excellent. Some really interesting holes and the photos don't do it justice as the course rolls up and and down and around! Some decent doglegs and blind holes."

I remember only one flat shot off a level lie in the round - uphill, downhill, sidehill. So much precise short range play is required - often a very short pitch/chip onto a tiny green. Course is in fabulous condition, both fairways and greens. Bought the course guide and it was very useful. Fantastic, inspiring views. Very friendly folk. Recommended."
