How Do Nelly Korda And Scottie Scheffler Compare to Each Other

By: | Tue 23 Apr 2024

The early months of this year have been highlighted by the staggering form of Nelly Korda and Scottie Scheffler, two American world number ones who have produced a run of results that we arguably haven't witnessed since those heady days of Annika Sorenstam and Tiger Woods.

Korda's second major championship title at The Chevron on Sunday was her fifth consecutive triumph of the season. The 25-year-old won the LPGA Drive On Championship in January, before taking a break for several weeks, skipping the LPGA Tour's Asian Swing.

However, once the circuit returned Stateside, Korda was back with a vengeance, claiming the Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship, the Ford Championship, the T-Mobile Match Play, and The Chevron Championship at The Woodlands in Texas.

This ties a long-standing record held by Sorenstam and the great Nancy Lopez. Spanning across 2004 and 2005, Sorenstam, the ten-time major champion, won in five successive starts. Expanding that across those entire two years, the Swede secured an extraordinary 18 (EIGHTEEN) victories on the LPGA Tour. Whether Korda can come anywhere near to matching that remains to be seen - but it feels like she's the closest to that level since that incredible era of dominance.

For Scheffler, who has played more events in 2024, the early weeks of the year were a relative slow-burner until his imperious display at Bay Hill to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational for a second time. He then successfully defended his title at The Players Championship after fending off Wyndham Clark, Brian Harman, and Xander Schauffele at TPC Sawgrass.

His streak was broken by a narrow runner-up finish in the Houston Open, before he validated his clear favourite tag by once again becoming the Masters champion.

Some would think he may have been a little tired after that effort, but the 28-year-old simply continued where he left off and comfortably won the RBC Heritage - a Signature Event - with a peerless performance at Harbour Town.

This leaves us with two number ones across the sport who have elevated themselves above the rest. With four majors in the women's game to come and three majors in the men's side over the next three months, who's to say where this stunning run of success could stop?

You just have to sit back and admire the talents of both Korda and Scheffler, who have set a standard that is captivating to follow.

But how do these two amazing players compare to each other? We have looked at the statistics and where they rank on their respective tours.

As you can see, they are both strong across the board, with Scheffler's putting stats perhaps surprising to those who have questioned his ability on the greens. What is striking is how many greens in regulation they hit - almost identical - with both sitting at the summit of that respective category. They quite simply give themselves more birdie chances and make fewer mistakes than anyone else.
