Sepp Straka Player Profile And What's In The Bag
Sepp Straka stood in the 18th fairway, 181 yards and two strokes away from becoming the 13th PGA Tour player to record a sub-60 round, and just the fifth to secure a victory in the process at the John Deere Classic.
He promptly hit his approach into the pond, leading to a double-bogey 6 that put victory in peril.
But Straka, 30, still claimed his second PGA Tour win in as many years when 54-hole leader Brendon Todd struggled coming down the stretch.
In the end, Straka’s nine-under 62 at TPC Deere Run was good for a two-shot win over Todd and Alex Smalley.
The victory lifted Straka to 18th in the FedExCup standings and 27th in the world rankings and boosted his chances of making Europe’s Ryder Cup team.
“September is a few months away, and I'm glad my game is in good shape,” he said. “Hopefully, I can make a push for that. I never really had a whole lot of confidence in myself growing up. My brother (Sam) was a little better than me. My class in high school was full of really good players, so I never really had a lot of success early on.
“I think one thing I've tried to work on a lot and have done a better job of is being more consistent in my practice and that translating into tournaments,” he said. “But at my best, I do feel like I can compete with anybody. Obviously the last three days I could have competed with just about anybody in the world, but growing up I never would have thought I would have a chance to even play on the PGA Tour. This is all just a big dream come true.”
Player Profile
Straka was born in Vienna on May 1, 1993. He is 6ft 3in and weighs 235lb.

In 2020-21 he finished 106th in the FedEx Cup standings to retain his PGA Tour card.
But then came a new season. It began with a series of missed cuts for the Austrian. But then he won the Honda Classic and followed it by finishing joint third at the RBC Heritage and second at the FedEx St Jude.
He ended up finishing seventh in the FedEx Cup standings and began the new season with a second place at the Sanderson Farms Classic.
His victory at the John Deere takes him to 18th place in the FedEx Cup standings and 27th place in the world rankings.
