Phil Mickelson Will NOT Play at 2022 Masters
Two weeks remain until the 86th Masters Tournament and three-time champion Phil Mickelson WILL NOT compete in it.
In a newly updated field list, the 51-year-old is now registered under Past Champions Not Playing on the official tournament website, and he is also absent from the player profile section of the site.
This now confirms speculation that his departure from the game will be long-term. In February, following the publication of comments the six-time major champion made to golf journalist Alan Shipnuck regarding the Saudi-backed Super Golf League (now entitled LIV Golf International Series), Mickelson declared that he was taking a break from the sport.
Mickelson last competed at the Asian Tour's Saudi International almost two months ago. He is set to defend his PGA Championship title at Southern Hills in May.
The American has been an iconic figure at Augusta National across several decades. He has made 29 appearances and last missed the season's first men's major in 1994.
It remains to be seen when and where the 45-time PGA Tour winner will next appear, but it will NOT be down Magnolia Lane in April.
