Historic Cleeve Hill Golf Club SAVED From Closure
Historic Cleeve Hill in the Cotswolds, a unique golf course that was designed by Old Tom Morris and later enhanced by Dr Alister MacKenzie, was threatened with potential closure last year, but The Cotswold Hub Co, in partnership with MASHIE Golf, has taken on a 125-year lease to allow the Club to remain open.
Steeped in tradition but with an exciting future ahead, Cleeve Hill Golf Club will continue to be run in its own right. MASHIE Golf and The Cotswold Hub Co are keen to provide continuity for Cleeve’s existing members and will ensure the Club thrives by redeveloping the site to provide more facilities for all users of the Hill including lodge accommodation, restaurant and new pro shop with cafe. Plans also include improving the standards of the golf course to encourage membership growth from the local area, something that Nick Hovey, Managing Director of MASHIE Golf and Co-Founder of The Cotswold Hub Co, feels will be the heartbeat of the club for many years to come.
In addition, MASHIE Golf will establish its UK Headquarters at Cleeve, bringing its team and a wealth of golf experience with it. MASHIE Golf will further support the Club by opening the course to its own members and bringing additional green fees, corporate clients, and events to the setting.
Commenting on the news Nick Hovey says, “This is a really exciting time for MASHIE and Cleeve Hill. The golf course is iconic, and to be able to help save such an important venue is very special for us. Equally this is a fantastic opportunity for MASHIE Golf, to establish a new HQ at such an historic site is a huge benefit for us and our members. We look forward to working with The Cotswold Hub Co to develop and deliver first class experiences to the golfing community.”
Sam Foyle, Co-Founder of The Cotswold Hub Co added, “We are delighted to be working with MASHIE Golf to secure the future of Cleeve Hill. We have brought together the best-in-class local team, from architects, hospitality, through to MASHIE Golf’s golf management expertise. We are all deeply passionate about delivering the facilities, golfing experiences and hub, that Cleeve Hill rightly deserves.”
The lease will begin on 1st April 2021.
