Callaway Apex 21 Irons Family Review

By: Golfshake Editor | Tue 12 Jan 2021

For 2021, Callaway has sought to achieve something that has been spoken about for years in club manufacturing - creating irons for every golfer.

Declaring that 'There Is Nothing Like Our Best...' Callaway is confident that its new Apex Family will deliver on that promise, where each line is priced the same, with combo/split sets to be expected for golfers who undergo a custom fitting. This Family is adaptable and functional, a fitter will find the iron to suit your specific requirements.

Apex 21 TCB, Pro, Standard and DCB Irons

Explaining more about the technology and the performance, Golfshake's Equipment Expert, and Head Pro at Howley Hall Golf Club in Leeds, Ryan Rastall has reviewed the Apex Family for us, describing what is a very attractive looking collection of irons.

Apex DCB

Apex 21 DCB

Offering that striking look and feel of a forged players iron, but with the forgiveness of a forged cavity back, many golfers will find their introduction to Apex through the DCB.

Engineered for an easy launch and solid turf interaction, golfers will also benefit from the A.I. designed Flash Face Cup in a game improvement iron for the first time. This unique architecture creates higher ball speeds and enhanced spin control.

Also in the DCB, Tungsten Energy Core is a feature, the long and mid-irons boast up to 50 grams of tungsten per iron, meaning the Centre of Gravity can be precisely placed for a higher launch.

Apex Standard

Likewise, the Flash Face Cup and Tungsten Energy Core is a highlight of the regular Apex, which offers the craftsmanship and performance that you would expect.

With 5x the tungsten of Apex 19, the Apex 21 provides greater forgiveness for off-centre strikes, while the feel is enhanced by the iron being 100% forged from a 1025 mild carbon steel body, with patented urethane microspheres creating a tangible sound at impact.

Showcasing those same core technologies that headline the family, Apex Pro has been significantly redesigned, presenting an ideal model for those better golfers who wouldn't mind a touch of extra speed and forgiveness without sacrificing performance.

Apex MB

Apex MB

For leading golfers, the Apex MB offers a sleek, blade design with high performance grooves, an appealing feel and a new weight system that has allowed the manufacturer to optimise those swingweights.

The 20V grooves reduce fliers and provide greater control from a wide variety of lies on the golf course.

Finally, specifically designed for tour/elite golfers, the TCB has a similar footprint to the X FORGED 18, but instead uses 1025 Forged Hollow Body Construction. The spec has all the optimum lofts, bounces, blade lengths and COR for the best golfers.
