9 Players to Watch at The Masters
This year's Masters Tournament will be unlike any other we have witnessed, played in November and without the magical soundtrack of the gathered patrons at Augusta National.
However, it's going to be undeniably compelling. 92 players are in the invited field, with Tiger Woods defending the title he won so dramatically won last April. There are established names looking to claim a Green Jacket, including Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka, while emerging stars like Tyrrell Hatton and Xander Schauffele look set to win a big one. It could even be this week.
Golfshake's Derek Clements picks out nine competitors he thinks could be right there in contention on Sunday...
Xander Schauffele
The complete golfer. Blessed with a wonderful temperament, he is sneaky long and possesses a fabulous short game. He also has the ability to reserve his very best form for the biggest tournaments.
Patrick Cantlay
Possesses a wonderful golf swing and is one of the most consistent players on the PGA Tour. Should have won a bucketload of tournaments by now. But he will surely win a major. And he is a huge fan of Augusta.
Bryson DeChambeau
DeChambeau could bring Augusta to its knees if he can keep the ball out of the trees. He has continued to work on his physique and will adopt his usual approach - hit the ball as hard as possible, find it and do the same again. Oh and by the way, he can putt.
Justin Thomas
Thomas is a winning machine. He is sneaky long but his real strength is his wedge play - he is a maestro from 140 yards and in. Has been working hard on his putting - and has improved that too.
Tyrrell Hatton
Now the top-rated Englishman in the world rankings, Hatton has finally learnt to accept the bad breaks. He has also become a serial winner and does not have a single weakness.
If you are looking for a great value bet, here are some possible outsiders at Augusta!
Matt Wallace
If Wallace can ever find a way to control his temper he can achieve just about anything. He has struggled off the tee for much of 2020 but has found some sparkling form recently.
Lee Westwood
He may well be 47 years old, but the Englishman has produced some sparkling form in 2020. Apart from his victory in Abu Dhabi, there have been several top-10 finishes. And he adores Augusta.
Justin Rose
It has taken a long time, but the Englishman finally seems to be rediscovering his best form. Nobody works harder at his game - and he has a fantastic record at Augusta. If he can hole a few putts he can win.
Cameron Champ
Everybody makes a huge fuss about the distance Bryson DeChambeau hits the ball, but Champ is not far behind him. He hits the ball a mile - and finds a lot of fairways. Has a fantastic temperament too.
