Best Fairway Woods of 2020

By: Golfshake Editor | Thu 30 Jan 2020

Fairway Woods remain a vital component of your game, with the leading manufacturers reflecting that status through the release of a wide variety of models in time for the 2020 season. But which is right for you? Technology is now so strong across the board, it can be a challenge to identify the best, but Golfshake's Equipment Expert, Ryan Rastall has tested and reviewed many of the clubs on the market, and he has taken the time to share his favourites.

PGA Professional at Howley Hall Golf Club in Leeds, Ryan has taken these fairway woods into the venue's Performance Centre, deploying TrackMan analysis to assess the performance of the various models.

Cobra SZ SpeedZone

Cobra is offering a choice of three new fairway woods designed to suit a wide variety of golfers. The SPEEDZONE Fairway, is a more traditional model, designed with back weighting and a slightly shallower face for easy launch, higher trajectories and forgiveness. The SPEEDZONE Tour Fairway, with a compact shape, with forward CG weighting, designed for better players, and the SPEEDZONE Big Tour Fairway, which features the largest profile of the three, stronger loft, forward CG weighting, produces the combination of fast ball speed, high launch and low spin for distance.

TaylorMade SIM

Including three distinct models, TaylorMade's SIM Fairway Woods start with the regular SIM, which possesses a 180cc titanium head that combines a lightweight carbon construction with the new ZATECH titanium face and a heavy 80g steel sole weight. The strategically positioned weight creates an extremely low CG that allows for increased ball speed, higher launch and improved forgiveness on low-face hits. The SIM MAX is designed for an even higher launch, while the SIM MAX-D have been created for those golfers seeking greater forgiveness and a draw bias.

Titleist TS

Part of Titleist's Speed Project, the TS Fairway Woods have been designed to drive faster ball speeds with higher launch, lower spin and increased MOI for more distance and game-changing forgiveness.

Callaway MAVRIK

Callaway's new MAVRIK Fairway Wood has received the Artificial Intelligence treatment, with every club featuring a uniquely designed Flash Face to work specifically for the shape and size of the head. The Flash Face SS20 is developed for fast ball speed, and MAVRIK’s speed characteristics are enhanced through forged steel face construction. Additionally, the Face Cup has been improved, with Jailbreak Technology in place to encourage distance. The MAVRIK Sub Zero is a lower spin model for those so inclined, with MAVRIK MAX delivering that added support to golfers who need it.

PING G410

PING's G410 Fairway Woods place an emphasis on speed-generating face technology, maximised MOI’s and added adjustability, helping golfers to properly gap their sets. Within the fairway woods, a low-back CG and high-density tungsten weight positioned at the extreme boundary of the head provides greater stability and forgiveness.

Wilson Launch Pad

Sharing much of the technology seen in the Launch Pad Drivers, Wilson's Launch Pad Fairway Woods feature lightweight components and a Carpenter Custom 455 face, helping to deliver greater control, feel, and distance. These are available with the same shaft and grip stock options used on the driver. Left-hand models are available in the same lofts.
