Callaway JAWS MD5 Wedges Review
Created by Roger Cleveland, Callaway has revealed its new, innovative JAWS Mack Daddy 5 Wedges, which feature a sharp-edged groove configuration alongside Groove-in-Groove Technology for greater spin.
The JAWS MD5 groove differs dramatically from the previous design in MD4 to promote significantly more spin and control. The walls, edges and angles of each groove are milled into the face with extreme precision to produce the sharpest edges and tightest tolerances ever achieved by manufacturer.
JAWS MD5 also features Callaway’s revolutionary Groove-in-Groove Technology which places a milled ‘Micro-Positive’ surface texture in-between each main groove. This, combined with the new JAWS groove help grab the ball’s cover more effectively and significantly increases spin on a variety of shots.
PGA Professional at Howley Hall and Golfshake Equipment Expert, Ryan Rastall has been testing the new wedges for us, and was left hugely impressed by what he found. Ryan also provides his explanation of the technology behind the clubs.
Further advancements include head shaping, which has also been optimised and progresses from a traditional shape in the lob and sand wedges to a more compact, better-player-preferred head in the gap and pitching models, offering a seamless transition from irons into wedges.
Precisely shaped for a beautiful look behind the ball and constructed from an 8620 Mild Carbon Steel for maximum feel, MD5 Wedges are available in a beautiful Platinum Chrome lustre, or a darker Tour Grey finish.
Five different bounce configurations are available in a wealth of loft options, including a new Tour-tested low-bounce W Grind and an updated C Grind, to make it easier to play a variety of greenside shots.
This highly versatile range of wedges is completed with a suite of premium components to maximise performance. The men’s range is available as standard with the Lamkin UTX grips and either True Temper Tour Issue 115 steel or Project X Catalyst 80 graphite shafts. Women’s models feature Lamkin Comfort grips and UST Recoil graphite shafts.
Loft options range from 46° through to 64°, with various bounce configurations.
JAWS MD5 Wedges will be available in stores from September 20th, 2019 across Europe.
