Stat Focus: Royal St George's Golf Club
Thousands of golfers use the Golfshake Score Tracker to record their scores and track their stats, taking full advantage of the statistical analysis to provide an insight behind their games. This depth of information has offered us a vast library of data, covering golf courses across the UK, Europe and beyond, capturing just how well the Golfshake Community have played certain layouts.
Continuing our Stat Focus Series, we look at 2020 Open Championship venue Royal St George’s in Kent, which is one of the most historic on the present rotation, having been the first course outside of Scotland to host the game’s oldest major in 1894, won by J.H. Taylor. The likes of Harry Vardon, Walter Hagen, Bobby Locke, Sandy Lyle, Greg Norman and Darren Clarke have all triumphantly lifted the Claret Jug here. Known for its towering Himalaya bunker on the 4th hole, its undulating fairways and occasional blind shots, Sandwich is a quintessential links experience and provides a challenge that has proven to be timeless.
Like each Open venue, when playing Royal St George’s, you are walking in the footsteps of those champions of the past. Some of you will have taken the opportunity to etch your own story into the rich tapestry of this famous layout, but how did you score?
